I thank everyone who took time to read through my quick post. I honestly didn’t think it would get as much attention as it did. So here are a few things I would like to just clear up:
1) Yes this is a VERY opinionated article and is me expressing myself. You can disagree or agree with me… I don’t care, it is simply my opinion.
2) Thank you for those who pointed out Hotmail now works on iOS. I am glad to hear! When I used to own an iPhone 3G (which seems like forever ago) the only option for Hotmail users was to use the web or POP3 in the mail client.
3) You are right Microsoft is locked down also when it comes to certain aspects, but the point of my post was to answer the many people that ask me why I don’t use Apple products; the reason is because both are semi-locked down and I have to pair with only one if I want the full ecosystem experience. But you are correct both Microsoft and Apple lock out parts of their ecosystem.
4) To clarify on what I think Apple is locked down with I particularly had in mind Apple’s ability to reject any application that attempts to replace a core ability or on OSX Apple’s new default of locking non-app store applications from the machine. (I can go on, but I won’t… and yes I know Microsoft has lock downs also.. and yes I know you can turn gatekeeper off)
5) Apple Mice Are Horrible. That is all. Yes I know you can use another mouse with a Macintosh… I’m not an idiot. I just wanted to comment on Apple’s mice, so once again… they are horrible.
6) To those who thought me calling a large portion of Apple user’s fanboys… I’m sorry for any offense, but I have to stick by it. There is no doubting the culture and sometimes extreme culture that surrounds Apple products. Many users (NOT ALL) tend to be people who are not too smart with tech than claim Apple simply rains supreme… NOT EVERYONE.
7) Once again it was my personal opinion, but I stated I went back to Windows due to programming reasons. I simply hated X-Code on the Mac. It is a trash program compared to Visual Studio… that I will stand by and not back down.
8) Yes I have owned Apple products… Two MacBook Pros, an iPhone 3G, an iPod Nano, and those horrible sounding in ear headphones.
9) The Microsoft Student Partner program is not dead or being replaced… Bing it. ;)
10) I know flash is garbage, but it is still used by many sites today. Just because you hate something or it doesn’t run well doesn’t mean it’s not necessary anymore.. how the hell am I suppose to play Tetris Friends?! :)
11) There is no Xbox 260… there are typos.

As someone posted above you are correct and Hotmail/LIVE mail is not IMAP supported. This would be a very good example of how in fact Microsoft is being locked in. As far as Windows Phone forcing you to use Zune… it is the same with iTunes and an iPhone/iPod. (Although now iPod can be used with Linux in certain work around)
The mice point was something I just wanted to comment on and I decided to comment about it in the iMac section.
I did acknowledge that only the Classic and older Touch units use the wheel. I also stated I don’t mind the touch.
Also by your statement you said Live mail works now? If that’s true wonderful! When I had my iPhone I was forced to use POP3. There was no other option.
Other things iPad locks me out of would include… streaming to an Xbox (it streams to an Apple TV), accessing Xbox LIVE content, controlling your Xbox, and a few others.

Hi Chris. If Microsoft choose to use IMAP or not is not the point I’m trying to make, but I do understand your point and you are absolutely correct, they should be using a standard.
I’m a Bing Insider and Lenovo Insider, but they don’t make me biased. I simply help to try and improve their products. Sometimes this works.. other times they still make sub quality products.
I don’t exactly understand your statement about Microsoft being closed, so if you could rephrase it I’ll address it.
And yes this article is subjective to me… as you can see the title says "why I…"

It did have an amazing change on the industry! Without Apple who knows where the industry would be! Once again this article is an editorial as you mentioned before. I actually like the iPod interface, but have always found the iPod wheel to be irksome and the above was simply my opinion on that. I was talking about the hardware/software of the product, not it’s effect on the industry which as you did say was immense.
