Apple is going to receive money from the U.S. government for building a factory in the U.S.?

Hold on there a moment, Chief! If he donates his tax refund to the government, it’s just going to support more wars. So, really, if we’re talking about the greatest moral good, he should be donating that money to me. Routing numbers to follow.

Apple/Google religious war interesects with Republican/Democrat partisan war. What’s not to love?

Outside of a one world government, it could be done, on a piecemeal basis, with trade agreements.

You got a source for that?
According to the article, Apple paid $6 Billion in taxes last year. How does this compare with Google? Microsoft? The oil companies?

I don’t think the U.S. Government has made any accusations at all. The supposed purpose of these hearings is to gather information. The real reason is probably political grandstanding.

My guess?
1) He wanted to contrast Apple’s behavior with that of Google, which has funneled £3.2 Billion in sales in the UK into Ireland, which has a lower tax rate. Google claims it has done nothing wrong and may well be right.
2) People who only read headlines and not the actual stories might believe that Apple is hiding profits earned in the U.S. offshore. News stories themselves might be suggesting this is the case. The Politco story itself almost seems to suggest this in the first few paragraphs. So, if anything, Cook is just setting the record straight in the media before heading into the ring.

So, you’re saying Bing is, if not outright homophobic, at least hetero-biased?

It’s not even about getting free stuff. It’s about religion. Change the names around and you see how absurd it all is. Google/MS, Coke/Pepsi, Republican/Democrat, Christian/anyotherreligion. Heck, for the best flamewars, check out the Reformation, i.e., one flavor of Christianity vs. another flavor.
I am beginning to think that fanboyism/tribalism is a deep part of human nature.

Why would you want to handicap MS in that way? It’s like throwing a drowning man an anvil!

I agree, Microsoft’s bad behavior totally excuses Google’s bad behavior. In fact, because MS has been so dastardly over the years, Google should be allowed a free pass for everything. Did you hear? Larry Page raped your sister! It’s OK, though, because, well you know, Microsoft . . . .

This could actually make a good series of TV commercials. And maybe the schlubby guy has a weird peeping tom uncle, named, I don’t know, Eric (just using a random name). That would be pretty cool.
This would actually make a pretty good sitcom. Have you considered pitching it to Netflix?

I can’t remember if it was a MacWorld or a WWDC, but in the early 2000s, i remember seeing “Redmond, Start Your Photocopiers” banners hung throughout Moscone Center. So, no, it’s not just Google that trash talks at a conference.
The problem Google has is that they use all sorts of “open” propaganda/marketing that often doesn’t match up with their behavior.

No, they just loaned out patents to companies to sue Apple by proxy. Unfortunately (for Google), you can’t loan out patents for litigation purposes, so the attempt failed.
