And only for users of WP8. WP7 is, as always, left out in the cold.
Thanks, MS, for making WP7 users’ screwing that much more miserable.

Sounds like the problem I had with an old HTC HD2. But the card slot was wore out – after running Windows Phone 7 on it.

Android has changed. You used to be able to move apps to external storage. But now you can’t. I’m not positive when the change occurred but want to say Jelly Bean because my ICS-equipped phone can move apps to SD card but my JB-equipped phones can’t.

I knew the HTC One would turn out to be the better of the two phones. Looks like this just solidified my mind on which I would buy. I know from horrible experience how fast the applications memory (the internal memory) can be used up. And 8GB of space for apps is just way too small.

But the problem is, cellphone/texting while driving is such a widespread problem that desperate measures have to happen to get control of it. The cops can’t hope to be a force in this issue until there is a way of detecting the problem viably. Most offenders can keep a car straight while they go down the road. That doesn’t mean they aren’t endangering lives, though. How’s a cop going to determine a problem if they aren’t able to perceive errant behavior until a life-threatening wreck occurs?
There are just too many offenders for the taskforce in place. Technology is the answer to nearly everything and it will certainly provide solutions to the human factor in this case.

“Do you not see a problem with that line of thinking?”
__________________________________________________
I see a problem with your thinking. And it doesn’t matter what you want. If it did, there would be anarchy.
The only distractions that need to be addressed are the ones making huge problems, like cellphone use while driving. If it wasn’t a huge problem, there would be no outcry for laws against it. And as long as cellphone users piss off other drivers, the outcry will get louder and louder until severe restrictions are placed on them.
Like I said, people are their own worst enemy. They seem to believe they can just crap on others freely and willfully whenever they want and as often as they want. That is the attitude than needs changing and the government will do it, one way or another. If people refuse to take responsibility – deliberately and spitefully or otherwise – then mom and dad Gov will do it for them.
The rest of us take personal responsibility for ourselves. We don’t need any laws governing our lives. Unfortunately a high percentage of others do require a “mommy and daddy” type of government to keep them straight and proper or face penalties.
As long as the laws are there to penalize the perps, let them be idiots, morons and irresponsible. They’ll pay for one way or another. But the laws have to first be in place before they can be penalized. And this technology will go a long way toward helping to prevent the harm these idiots, morons and irresponsible people can do to others when they disobey the law and willfully put others in danger.

A long journey begins with a tiny, little step. Enacting laws is doing something and taking that tiny, little step. If the law solves nothing else, at least it will be satisfying to know that cellphone users are breaking the law while they drive. And more than that, they will have on their conscience the guilt of causing the death or harm of other people should that happen.
You may not think a law making cellphone use while driving illegal will do any good, but you are wrong. Doing what you want solves nothing but coddling the offenders.

I’m flattered you think you need to convince me of your views, but that’s impossible. The reason being, I’m experiencing the trouble of cellphone distracted drivers all the time. Like I said in a different reply, nearly 100% of the time when there is a traffic problem or annoyance, it is because of someone talking on a cellphone while driving.
You see, my side doesn’t have to actually do anything to press the government to outlaw cellphone usage while driving. The perpetrators, themselves, are doing it for us. It makes no difference what view you spew. As long as drivers cause problems while using cellphones, the problems will be dealt with by our elected representatives.

The real solution is to remove the human factor from navigating a vehicle. But that technology is many years away – reliably. In the interim there should be laws enacted making cellphone use while driving illegal and technological measures imposed to help keep our loved ones safe from irresponsible drivers.

It’s apparent you don’t see a problem with cellphone use while driving. However, more and more people, including myself, will press the government to take away your right to use a cellphone while driving as long as people refuse to be responsible and considerate of others. Maybe you win, maybe we win. But one thing is certain: there will be a battle to the end. And every life lost or affected by a cellphone user while driving will ever more greatly sway the issue to our side (anti-cellphone-while-driving users).

It was your friend’s fault for being stopped at the red light. At least that’s how deviant cellphone users will likely tend to see. It can never be their own fault. Using a cellphone while driving should always supersede traffic laws.

Well I can testify from my experience that when there is a traffic inconvenience, log jam or other driving annoyance, it has been drivers distracted by a cellphone – nearly 100% of the time these days. People in the fast lane driving well below the common speed and blocking the proper flow of traffic? Cellphone users too busy with their conversation to be bothered to drive responsibly.
Women fixing their face while driving is a big problem and needs to be dealt with. But cellphone use while driving is becoming more and more a plague.

And when your 16 year old daughter asks you for a bikini in order to get a tee-shirt, the mission will be accomplished. Asking the gov to provide that level of restriction will certainly gain what this article is saying.
But as others have said, the problem won’t be eliminated until the human is taken out of the equation. But until that time, governmentally imposed restrictions will have to suffice.

“This seemed like a good idea, but then I realised passengers would be unable to get celular reception too. Bad idea.”

You know what a good idea is? Cellphone users taking responsibility and being disciplined about not driving while using their cellphones. This would benefit our beloved loved one by not putting them in danger.
Beyond that and if they will not control themselves and think about the safety of other people, let them be prevented from endangering our loved ones by technology.

“This pretty much is the Nuclear option since it will prevent passengers as well as drivers, but it seems the only prevention method available beyond simply prosecuting drivers who are caught. People shouldn’t use their phones whilst driving, and in many jurisdictions it is prohibited, and yet they continue to do it. If people don’t start acting responsibly when behind the wheel, don’t be surprised when the Government comes and hits you with an even bigger inconvenience.”
______________________________________________________________
I agree. People are their own worst enemy. Taking responsibility and controlling themselves for the sake of other drivers seems to never, ever be an option with them so the government, on behalf of the other drivers, has to step in to make the roads safe for our families – our spouses and children.
