No reason? It removes half the user interaction required. Increased ease of use could only help the adoption rate.

Now Am Going To Ask You To Disappear From This Post As Its Not Intended For Sheep.
Just because you created the topic, doesn’t mean you own it. Everyone here is allowed to do whatever they please, as long as it’s within the reason. Plus, I’d much prefer to listen to his perspective; he’s not the one mindlessly calling others sheep.

After all, you can access it with a swipe on the lock screen. Easy.
I wonder if it would be feasible to take it a step further, and just have the camera automatically recognise when a QR code is presented to it – even less work required of the user.

Depends on what you want.
If I could hug you right now, I would. The number of people of every ecosystem persuasion that downright fail to understand this concept is mind-boggling.

You could always buy it, just to try (unless it’s expensive in… Brazil, right?). I can understand reservations over this idea, though. I was loosely entertaining the notion of an iPad Mini at release a while back, just to retest the iOS waters, but I’m a poor uni student with little money to spare for redundancies, so no dice.

Eh, this is probably going to sound apologetic, but the Nexus 7 is a poor example by which to judge Android. It’s a budget tablet running old hardware that wasn’t even good at release (Tegra 3, also known as the bane of my existence).
If you want comparisons of smoothness with Android, running on similarly high-end hardware, check the Nexus 4 and Nexus 10. The 7 was always intended to be a budget model, and the fact that Tegra was the only viable (in the loosest sense of the word) option at the time made it even worse. Fingers crossed for a nice update with a Snapdragon, though.

This post turned out to be an absolute bashing of why the HTC One sucks, and why the S4 is better.
This is a tad true, but I can empathise with the OP as to why it turned out as such. The level of HTC One hysteria in these forums was overbearing for quite some time. I’m not a fan of the One myself – it looks nice, but that’s about all it does for me. Not being in love with the One pretty much sided me with the GS4, which was the whipping boy for every HTC-crazed commenter for a month before and after release. It gets tiresome to see the GS4 and people who prefer it (ridiculous behaviour, might I add) disparaged in favour of the seemingly godlike One – even idiots above instantly cry astro-turfing at the first sign of a positive Samsung post. My point is, it’s easy to fall into the habit of bashing the One, when usually it’s a defense of the your own (right to a) preference regarding the GS4.
All that said, I agree with your criticisms of the GS4. The software ‘enhancements’ of Touchwiz annoy me on my GS2, and I would call minor compared to the S3/4’s. At the risk of sounding like the zealous Nexus fans, I don’t think I’d be able to stand an OEM skin after my Nexus 7.

You know the conversation has devolved when ‘sheep’ is brought into the mix. Let’s have the conversation bear a semblance of intelligence, shall we?

Because the iPads browser plays nicely with more websites, whereas the Nexus 7 screws up more. Because the Nexus 7 cannot be used to enter comments in a lot of Internet forums because it doesn’t know the difference between gestures within a text entry box vs without (iPad does). And because the Nexus 7 text entry is janky and laggy, period.
And what browser might that be using? These things depend on the browser, not the tablet. What’s more; this is your anecdotal evidence. I have not had a problem that can’t be fixed (read: not the fault of the Nexus device) in all my time with the tablet. That’s my anecdotal evidence, and I think I know whose I’ll be basing my decisions off.
that even if you have a preference (ie. widgets), you give up so much by choosing the Nexus that you’d have to be nuts to choose it.
If you think preferences stop at widgets, then you’re severely misinformed and have understood absolutely nothing I’ve said thus far. I have never felt like I’m missing out on anything with the Nexus 7 whereas with the iPad, I would be missing out on Android and all it entails. Capiche?

Car analogies? Really?
Using a tablet, being immersed in an ecosystem and interacting with an operating system is not the same as simply getting behind a steering wheel.
If you want to persist with ridiculous car analogies, this would be more similar to driving a high end, $150,000 gas car that has recently been serviced, and a mid-range $100,000 electric car in need of a service, in completely different countries with different languages. Sure, I’d like to have a electric car that’s just been serviced, and drive it in my country – but I can’t have all three. Therefore, I go with the one that most fits my preferences. I don’t want to have to move countries, and adapt to the unnecessary changes all because it would be a slight improvement in the driving experience.

Look, if somebody has a use case for a tablet that doesn’t involve using the internet or email or apps or games, then perhaps… just perhaps that person might have a valid reason for choosing the Nexus 7.
We were talking about not using apps, and yet now it’s the internet and email as well? Do tell: how is the iPad Mini superior in these two regards? So this is what you do when engaged in actual conversation, move the goalposts and shift your argument. Can’t say I’m surprised.
But if anybody does want to use the internet or email or apps or games (let alone all these, like normal tablet buyers), the Nexus 7 is a dud choice.
So you’re arguing that the different preferences of groups of users are somehow invalid and wrong because they don’t conform to the ‘norm’? Right.
I’ve owned both cheap no-brand Android tablets and the Nexus 7. The relative merits of the Nexus 7 vs iPad doesn’t depend on comparison against terrible tablets though, it depends on comparison against the iPad. And it stacks up very poorly.
I have a feeling my point went straight over your head. Allow me to clarify (and we’ll pretend for a moment that user experience is objective). On the continuum of crappy user experience to good user experience, the iPad might be at the top, that’s fine.
The iPad offers a premium feeling, and a solid (yet not perfect) experience. It’s animations are smooth, and it performs day-to-day functions generally without a hitch. At the other end of the spectrum exists the crappy China tablets, that are so laggy, buggy and cheap feeling that it impinges on virtually all areas of a tablet experience. My argument is, that on this continuum, the Nexus 7 is in the middle. It’s a budget tablet after all, and has year old hardware – obviously it has some flaws. But it still functions relatively well, offers a solid user experience for at least half the time (50%) and IME, most of the time. In this respect, it is the very definition of a median.
It is a good device. The iPad Mini is a great device. Comparatively, it may be ‘worse’ in regards to some objective aspects, I don’t deny that – but that doesn’t automatically make the Nexus 7 a terrible experience, period. You’ve been conflating the comparative and absolute qualities. Despite being the ‘median experience’ in regards to objective aspects, the Nexus is still a better fit for me. This is what preference is all about, and it’s been going straight over your head (that, or you’ve been ducking to avoid it) from the start. The Nexus 7 suits my needs to a ‘t’, and I enjoy using it. Why would I pay more for an iPad Mini, that I would use in exactly the same fashion whilst being dissatisfied with the user experience?
I meant them to be light banter
That’s funny, it came off an condescension.
