One of the previous stories (don’t remember which) in this story stream mentioned it has since been removed from Android.

networks say there’s no viable way of tracking online viewership
It’s entertaining to think someone actually said this out loud. I’d imagine it is far easier to track online viewership than OTA / STBs.
It sounds like network execs have a list of reasons they don’t like Aereo, but did not list any legal reasons (I’m sure there is something in the fine print that they will find).

If the deal doesn’t close, there wouldn’t be an exchange of money, now would there? (With the exception of a breakup clause, such as the AT&T / T-mobile deal, but I’m unaware if there is such a clause in this deal).

Any plans to update the title of this post, as it is now generally known to have been RIM and not Samsung?

Technically that is Exchange Active Sync, not IMAP, and email clients that don’t license it ($$$) can’t use it.
I still use my Hotmail account, though I wish I didn’t need it.

The majority of people are not early adopters, so this shouldn’t be terribly surprising. Enthusiasts / early adopters will jump on board (some already have with Google Wallet), and over time it will become more widely accepted. Your “average” user most likely doesn’t know, or has very limited knowledge of mobile payments. When there is competition in the space (soon), there will be truckloads of advertising dollars thrown behind it to educate people and reassure their reservations about mobile payments.

I feel your pain. I went through the same snafu a few months ago.
It’s especially frustrating when you have to support iOS 4, as you have to keep a separate device from updating.

Hotmail is genuinely better than Gmail as a service
How exactly, do you quantify a (completely subjective) statement like that? I’m curious as to which ways you think Hotmail is a a better service.
I’ve used Hotmail since it was HoTMaiL, Gmail since shortly after launch (back in the days when you needed an invite), Yahoo, and several others. I’ve never felt Hotmail provided a better experience, performance, or features over Gmail, personally.
(In my experience) Hotmail’s spam filters don’t come close to Gmail’s, I far prefer (totally subjective) Gmail’s tagging system to Hotmail’s organization, and Gmail’s 2 step validation gives me more faith in it’s security (especially after the 0 day exploit in Hotmail’s password reset last week). I haven’t checked recently, but doesn’t Hotmail still lack IMAP support?

+1 for Big Nerd Ranch books. If I can impart some wisdom learned from professors when I was in university, learn to do things the hard / manual way, before using the shortcuts / easy methods. Specifically, learn how to properly manage your reference counts before using ARC (Automatic Reference Counting). Learn to use the standard UINavigationController before using storyboards for everything. Practice creating and controlling views programmatically before using the conveniences in Interface Builder.
Knowing how to do these things manually will give you a better understanding of what the tools / frameworks are doing behind the scenes, saving you trouble down the road.
Best of luck, mobile development is a blast!

Please, stay on topic or leave the conversation alone. There’s a similar thread in Android Army for I/O & Jelly Bean predictions, and Apple users haven’t come in there to derail the conversation with useless flaming.

I read it, but perhaps I read to much into the provision. I was under the impression (I’m not a lawyer, nor a politician, so please correct me if I’m mistaken), that being in FBI custody meant that the arrestee was subject to the judicial system, and would receive due process (whereas under military custody, they could be held indefinitely).
It seems very difficult to find actual factual analysis of what these provisions actually mean, since inflammatory headlines get all the clicks.

That sounds pretty succinct to me. Perhaps Tom was trying to sound as objective as possible, given the increasing trend of flaming / trolling on any post involving Apple, Google, or Microsoft.

He issued a Presidential directive a few months back, removing the ability to detain US citizens indefinitely. Sadly, it did not receive any media coverage. Source.. I am not a lawyer, nor a politician, so I am unsure of how binding that directive is / how easily it can be removed.
Let Congress answer for their actions later, if they still want to push it through.
From my understanding of NDAA, it was tied to critical portions of military funding, and not passing it would essentially mean not paying soldiers. I’m going on memory here, so please correct me if I’m mistaken.
I think the bigger problem is allowing things like this to be bundled into one bill. Lumping necessary provisions with highly controversial measures is the reason our government is crippling itself, in my opinion.

Does that mean we shouldn’t talk about how absurd it is? I don’t exactly get your point.
Oh no, that was not what I meant at all. I was merely responding to the OP’s opening statment, and the sentiments other have about this being a poor ad campaign.
I quite plainly do not understand the ground that Samsung believes it has over Apple and its products!
