You can use it at half resolution or manually set it to full resolution and neither will impact performance.

Using any setting in the settings other than Best will reduce performance.

I agree. I run my 15" RMBP at a higher-than-default resolution and unless I’m playing a game or watching a video it stays on the Intel graphics.

No UI lag to report.

Actually, if you used something to manually set the resolution to full, then it’d perform as well as half.

Things would be very tiny though.
