I’ve been looking for a device to record footage from my PS3 (well, and also my NES, Genesis, N64, and so on) for a while now, and the blasted HDCP problem always rears its ugly head on every device I’ve come across. Oh well, I’ll just add this to the list of potential purchases once I figure out how to deal with that (if it can be dealt with).

I used the Windows 8 Consumer Preview for about 6 weeks on my gaming PC, and I was absolutely loving it. I wasn’t sure about the start screen at first, but as I used it more it started growing on me, and now that I’m back on Windows 7 (wasn’t planning on it, but after a driver update the OS started crashing on an hourly basis) I’m kind of missing it. Sure, it functioned differently, but it worked just fine. I don’t use a lot of variety in the programs I use, so it was nice to have them all available within two clicks.
That’s not to say that I blindly loved using Windows 8, but I feel a lot like I did when I upgraded from Vista to 7; I feel like things just got a little better all around, and the pieces fit together just a little differently this time around.

I’ll reserve final judgement for when I see the final result and have had a chance to play around with it, but it looks fine to me. Different, for sure, but not bad.

For a while I was flashing a new ROM on my phone every week or two, trying to find one I liked enough to keep. There are a lot of custom ROMs on XDA, and it wasn’t clear which ones I would like until I tried them out.
I hit the limit on Google Music about a month ago and had to deauthorize some devices before it would let me add the new one. The thing is, they were all the same phone, so I had ten SGH-T989 phones authorized (well, one of the ROMs identified itself as a Galaxy Nexus, but it was the same phone as all the others). Fortunately, it let me clear the list, even though they had the warning about four deactivations back then.

Yeah, I was a little concerned about how they would collect them afterward, but since they handled that, it’s all cool.

I’m tiring of this whole patent nonsense. Can’t everyone just make awesome stuff and not have to worry about whose UI is too similar to someone elses?

I honestly really like Windows Media Center, but I never play DVDs anymore, so I’m not heartbroken about this news. If I was to put my computer into the living room (which is likely at some point, as it’s a tower and it has basically replaced my gaming consoles), I would definitely be willing to shell out a reasonable fee to add WMC back in, since it’s a really good piece of software for what it does.

I suppose there’s an alternate reason you might choose this over a pair of SLI GTX680: limited space in the case. It would fit in my computer case without modification, whereas I’d have to rearrange some other cards I have in order to fit in two double-slot cards.

They need a larger dictionary in general. I’ve drawn the same thing multiple times for the same people, and one person I’m playing with who I have a ~250 streak with right now has had the same word come up enough times that we can guess the word within the first few lines, even if it’s a fairly difficult one.

I just use MS Security Essentials (and some common sense), and the last time I remember having to deal with malware was back in the heady days of Kazaa before I learned that it was an excellent way to get infected. I was on Windows 98 back then.
