Hopefully Microsoft has a solution soon.

The obvious downside of the Windows Phone UI is that you only can 8 tiles max at a time. With iOS/Android I believe you can see up to 16 icons + 4 in the dock at any one time. Plus many people really do love the 3D glossy icons. Also while the animating People hub is pretty, there is no utility in flipping my FB friends’ photos.

I love my Lumia 900 but it’s missing a lot of things:

• doesn’t have most of the halo apps on iOS/Android
• no system dictionary
• no retina display, you really can see pixels on text when you zoom in
• bad camera

Not saying that Apollo devices won’t address a lot of this, but it’s easy to understand why an iPhone is an easy choice for a new smartphone buyer.

Another example of how Apple made the iPod successful was getting U2 to make an ad for them.

Give credit to Apple for creating products that peer pressure can make people buy them. That’s unbelievable product design + marketing.

Agreed, the latest ability to mirror content(AirPlay) from an iOS device is really groundbreaking.

Mac Pros are excellent video production computers, everyone in that industry uses them. From a pure industrial design standpoint, there isn’t anything better.

Can you explain me the value of it being “beautiful”? It’s a router.

I love the multitasking view. Although it’s a direct ripoff of WebOS, it’s less functional. You can’t close apps, you’re limited to only 5 cards and sometimes multiple views within a single app get a card each filling up the already limited space. So a lot of work to do there.

Oh and Local Scout.

To be honest, the only compelling reasons why you would choose WP over iPhone or Android are:

• new UI, live tiles are new
• Office integration
• SkyDrive integration
• Me & People hubs
• XBox Live
• Bing maps powered by Nokia

these are all things unique to Windows Phone. There is no use talking about smooth scrolling, pinch to zoom, apps because all those things already exist on the other platforms and in greater numbers.

The biggest fact in the room is that there is nothing wrong with choosing an Apple.

What is a ‘poor’ Apple product from what they currently sell, not old stuff.

Honestly I don’t see how Microsoft can build that mindshare in the current environment.

Obviously he’s talking about either the television or LiquidMetal iPhone.

But they pay a premium for hardware, not software.

I doubt shareholders would like Microsoft giving away any version of Windows. Ballmer would be fired.

It’s really great. Like today I was on a call and needed some info, so I brought up Office Mobile to look at a document during the call, using the multitasking interface. It’s really brilliant.

but the Lumia series haven’t been around for years like Apple products. Also consider the halo effect of the Apple stores, particularly the flagship ones.

I don’t’ like the idea of "locked off’ portions of the UI, limiting actual content. I like Windows Phone UI home screen which allows you to pin all kinds of content(apps, contacts, documents, etc…) in whichever order you want.

Nice problem to have. We’ve certainly come a long way when this is considering a “problem”.

I think Windows RT could do very well on hybrid devices above desktops, laptops and tablets.

One thing to consider in all this talk of bias is which companies actually make the best products, which ones get the highest consumer satisfaction year after year?

Right now 99% of children are screaming “I want an iPad”.

So what you’re saying is all Windows mobile platforms are DOA.

300 million is the absolute top # possible in 13-14 months of sales from Oct 2012 to Dec 2013. Did Ballmer just give the MSFT board a reason to can him?

Why shouldn’t Zuck be treated like a rock star?

In order for Windows RT tablets to be considered a viable alternative to the iPad it would need to be:

a. Cheaper
b. Have as many or better educational apps
c. Have open minded school boards

It will be interesting to see how many CIOs share your view.
