Then use android. Why support an OS where its fundamental values will not allow something like this to ever happen. I dont think even Google wants Facebook to be sticking its UI on top of everything, but they can’t help it.

Apple hasn’t said anything yet about iOS 7. Everything is speculation and rumors, and its the public hyping themselves up for something they have no info about. And the focus on “flat” UI is the same thing – the public being obsessed about this new term they’ve learned (skeuomorphism), and not knowing when it’s appropriate or not.

If Apple is smart they’ll just fix the extreme skeuomorphic designs that affect usability, and focus more on functionality (glanceable info, inter-app communication etc), and give the whole OS more polish and consistency.

I think you’re confusing the design style with the usage style

Design style and usage style go hand-in-hand though. It is the design of Metro that prevents it from being information dense on the screen. Its the design that makes it hard to figure out what is clickable and whats not.

I hope Jony Ive doesnt chase trends. I want the extreme skeuomorphism gone too, but I want him to remove it because its affecting usability, not because its “un-cool”.

I’d rather he design based on usability and simplicity, not because of a trend. People give Microsoft a lot of praise for “inventing” the flat UI, but Microsoft put looks over functionality too (exactly what people accuse skeuomorphism of doing) . The metro design is very constrained, and you see apps like twitter and Facebook moving away from it.

Especially when it is most likely going to be used overseas to purchase components, invest in equipment etc. There is no need to bring every dollar back to the US.

Google tells us that it will support the iOS background location feature, so that at least it won’t need to spend as long hunting for your position when you open up the Search app
