For the german spectrum they are pretty much the centre with a few more outbursts to the left side than to the neocon side.

Its actually not true. the party had Marina Weisband as political CEO. SHe was loved by the media. They dont seem to be on that shaky ground at least not for the next few years.

They actually show the small text if there is room for it by default, like on a tablet.

I actually really like how its done in ICS. When there is no space for explanation it gets visibly when you long press (which I do all the time when I dont know what to do because I press first and then decide, at this point it already shows me the explanation).
But what people seem to be forgetting is that the same icons, bars etc get the underlying description flat out if there is space for it. On my TouchPad with ICS I can always read the action bar description for the icons whereas on my phone I have to long press. I like it like that.
