Finally free unlimited WiFi calling to a US number. Viber never supported it and the only other 2 I knew – Textfree & TextNow both made you buy minutes or watch videos in order to get free minutes in order to call. If this app truly allows unlimited calls to a US number from WiFi WITHOUT the other person needing Sidecar on their phone – then i’ll be happy to ditch Textfree and TextNow.

This just makes no sense to me. If Waterstones isn’t getting a cut of ebook sales – then what benefit can they have from selling hardware? Do they really expect to sell that many devices on a daily basis? And once you have sold someone one of these devices, that’s it – they probably wont ever set foot in the door anymore. Everyone knows the Kindle is from Amazon and if they ever wanted one – they would just go online and purchase one direct from Amazon and have it delivered free to their door. Who needs to step into a Waterstones to do that?
Personally I feel that Waterstones should have made a deal with B&N and tried to bring the Nook family to the UK. Since B&N don’t have a UK presence, Waterstones could have worked out a deal to get a cut from all ebook sales happening from within the UK. This way they get revenue from both the hardware and the ebooks and slowly the UK population would know what the hell Barnes and Noble and the Nook are! A missed opportunity when the Nook readers are infact really good hardware devices. I grabbed my Nook Tablet from a recent trip to the US and I am loving the tablet. The expandable storage really tips it in favour of the Kindle Fire.

So this guy decides to save as much of HIS money as possible and 2 idiotic senators decide to have a knee jerk reaction and start a legislative act against him? Will these 2 senetors also include all the tax loopholes that members of Congress use and also go further by including companies such as PayPal and Skype who move their headquarters to Luxembourg to avoid large corporate tax bills and while we are at it – why not include all those companies that are avoiding higher labour costs by exporting jobs and production overseas to save on money? If Saverin doesn’t even spend most of his time living in the US then what is the problem? Sure, what he is doing may not seem ethical, but he’s legally entitled to do so. He’s been good on his taxes so far and bankrolled a company that is now one of the most successful in the USA. Will these senators also ban all previous US citizenship denouncers and ban them from entering the country based on avoiding paying tax? What do you expect from a country that makes its citizens who live and work 100% in a foreign country pay taxes back to the US – do these citizens benefit from anything with this tax such as rubbish collection or fire/police? Why do you think every tax season, people consult tax advisors to find the best possible loopholes to get more money? Oh that CD case I bought is an expense? my sisters uncles sons nephew is a dependent? Great! Any opportunity for the US Government to get money, so can’t blame individuals who try to save as much as they can. These 2 senators are idiotic at best.

Back in 2010, I got an iPhone 4 on contract.
£429 / $686 upfront for the handset.
£20 / $32 monthly for 1 year.
What I got:
250 minutes
Unlimited texts
Unlimited data
After my year was up, I upgraded my contract:
what I’m getting:
£12.50 / $20 monthly for 3 month minimum contract.
500 minutes
5000 texts
1GB of data
The 32Gb iPhone retailed for £600 ($960) unlocked from Apple retail. My total cost of the handset and the 1 year contract came to £669. Even if I bought the phone full price from Apple retail, I would have never gotten a decent pay as you go deal for £69 for the year let alone a contract. Even topping up PAYG with £10 a month would be £120 + £600 for the phone = £720 so my £669 deal saved me £50. I also got a 1 year incase the iPhone 5 came out and I liked that, however the 4S came out instead which i decided against. I’ll run the current contract till the new iPhone comes out and either see what deal I can find or just buy it outright from Apple retail and move my £12.50 SIM to the new phone. Just have to figure whats cheaper when all the prices are announced.

Is this mission manned or unmanned? No articles ever seem to mention that. It would be good if they made it clear.

Wow – what a brilliant article. Very indepth and just which was what I was hoping given the nature of the topic. As I kept reading, I paused to scroll to see how long the article was and boy was it long! Unfortunately it’s dinner time so i’ll have to come back and read it later or just read it through Pocket on the way to work. But hats off to the author – this is what makes The Verge, The Verge.. quality as usual!
