Maybe things got a bit delayed on that end due to the changing of the Skype back end. I would have expected Skype and Messenger to become one and for it to be a non issue.
For stuff like calculator and notepad (that are typically buried a few levels deep in the start menu) I have gotten used to just typing calc and enter, even back in the XP days
