A prime example: how many drugs are out there to treat ADHD? Ritalin, Adderal, Concerta, Vyvanse. Several methods to treat the same chemical imbalance. Why? Because not everyone’s body chemistry responds the same way, or worse – adverse reactions. Trying several different approaches to the achieve the same goal is one of the underlying principles (IMO) of the scientific process.
I can understand your hesitation about duplicitous research, especially when it comes to where the government is concerned, but these are scientists trying to do the research, not government officials.
