The Verge’s stated focus isn’t technology; it’s always been technology and culture. If you want just technology, you’re in the wrong place.

Just a fun topic! I was expecting a more evenly distributed response, to be honest.

You say that as if it takes more than two lines of code. Google provides the hooks to make it easy.

Depends. If it’s using GPS, it’ll kill your battery. If it’s using cell tower triangulation, like any intelligent iOS app, you won’t notice.

Apple doesn’t compete with Google Now in any way, so your statement makes no sense. Any link opened from within Now opens in its respective Google app, not Apple’s.

Many third party apps on iOS let you choose which email client, browser, maps, etc to use. When was the last time you used iOS?

Even though we’ve yet to see a smart watch that doesn’t suck, I see more potential with wrist-worn computers than face-worn computers. Wrist computers are inherently less intrusive and less obnoxious. Face computers are creepier. Plus, I wear glasses and I want to be able to remove the computer from my glasses at will. We’ll see if Glass lets me do that.
I actually just wrote an article on this subject at plaidknight.com :)

Also, why can’t I long press a letter and get a corresponding symbol/number like the Android keyboard? That seems like a no-brainer.
iOS’s keyboard is faster to type symbols than Android’s if Android still requires a long-press to activate symbols.
Touch your thumb to the symbol key on iOS’s keyboard and, without lifting your finger, slide over to the symbol. Let go. The symbol inserts and the keyboard instantly switches back to ABC mode. This is WAY faster than long-press and I’m not sure why long-press is desirable to this.
