Why is it so bad? Because it’s completely unnecessary, and serves simply as another barrier for paying customers to vault over. A cell phone is always online because it has to be. Making a console always online is a demonstrably onerous form of DRM.
This is from a PC gaming snob whose last console was a Super Nintendo. Online is good. Forcing it where it’s not needed (like Metro on a desktop) is absurd.
And while we’re on the subject, both the WP8 and W8 teams would do well to unify their interfaces more. Apart from flat square colored boxes, Metro on Windows 8 doesn’t really share much with Metro on Windows Phone 8. The have pretty different interfaces and experiences.bq.
