Calling all photo junkies

I am an Emmy Award winning motion graphics designer/animator living in Auckland, New Zealand but originally from Toronto, Canada. I love the creativity and variety associated with motion graphics.
I have a great love for photography - it's a good excuse to explore the world in which we live and is my creative outlet outside of work. I have a variety of interest - everything from art history to science. I'm a bit of a geek for gadgets and technology. I love all things design be it graphic design, architecture, industrial design. I just get a kick out of great creativity.

As someone who still enjoyed using Flickr I am really pleased about this, more so the redesign than the storage space but that’s also nice to have. I also am happy to hear that they’re finally going to put out a new Android app.

Nice candid. I’d maybe crop just a bit off the bottom as I’m not sure about the foreground element. It’s nice that is adds depth but wondering if it’s to heavy, pulling too much focus from your subject.

Great photo. Really nice tones and composition. That bokeh in the background almost looks ghostly, really interesting. Really like the feel this images has, I think it’s the textures in this, I like it a lot.

Cool shot, digg the tones and patterns in this. I agree with ounkeo to possible have some more head room on the top, but I also crop in just a bit on the right. Possible a little rotation to the right to make the middle line center.

Some really nice work posted, I’ve got a lot of sites bookmarked so thanks for all those who posted.
I’ve got a site at www.robertbrienza.com but I don’t post to it as much as I would like, too busy with work (not photography related). I actually post to Flickr on a regular basis but I should get into the habit of posting to my site instead.
Ack, just realized my last blog post on my site was December 2012. Embarrassing.

Nice tones, I think keeping some of the details on the underside of the pier might have been cool, maybe. My iMac monitor is super contrasty so if they are there excuse my comment.

Another image from New Zealand’s South Island. I think it works better when viewed at a larger size.

I prefer this treatment over the original. Don’t mind split tone treatment if used in a way that works with the image.

Well it’s not robbery if you make money from using the software. That’s why I’m not getting that upset about this. You can just bill for the expense of subscribing. I mean even at $100 a month, how is that not covered by a months worth of work.
I see you’re point about someone only needing access to one or two applications so having access to everything may be excessive but I though adobe offered subscription to individual pieces of software. You can get Photoshop alone for $20 a month but if you need two or three applications you might as well just to the entire creative cloud subscription.
I really think this is just a reaction to something new and change. First reaction is get upset. After while people get over it and accept it.
if there really is a negative reaction, then maybe people will see an opportunity and some competitive pieces of software will show up. As an After Effects user, who sometimes makes use of Photoshop, Premiere, and Illustrator (for work) I don’t have an issue with it. That being said I work for a studio who doesn’t have an issue with this so in reality, this will have no impact on me from what I can tell. Hence my rection to it.

I’m surprised that Adobe went subscription only with this version, I thought we would get CS7 as a normal release but that they would hold features back (via updates) to Creative Cloud subscribers to get people to see the “benefit” of a subscription. Then go subscription only for the next release. That being said anyone who’s heard an Adobe employee talk about their products knew Creative Cloud was the way Adobe was going.
I have to admit I’m not surprised by the negative reaction, but I can’t say I 100% get it. If you make money using this software, you’ll cover your cost per month. From what I can tell, doesn’t it pan out to be the same cost if you consider upgrades over the years? It’s not like a CS license was cheap, even for individual software. I understand why people who are casual or home users might be upset but then again I’d be surprised if they paid for an entire Creative Suite.
People hate change, and I think that’s a big part of this. I really think most studios or individuals who use Adobe software as a source of income won’t care. Honestly, If you can’t cover a monthly cost of $50 ($70 for a team license) per month then how are you in business? Considering you get access to all their apps (which now includes a lite version of Cinema 4D with the new After Effects) that’s actually a pretty good deal.
It’s just like subscribing to Netflix or Spotify but it’s stuff that helps make you money. If you’re good enough at making money using these tools you can almost think of it in the sense that you get all these applications for free!

Thanks. I did get my camera over the fence for a clear shot but it’s not at the same angle. I don’t mind the fence in some ways, it’s part of the story.
That being said it’s easier to see the damage in this shot.

Yes, I was surprised by this as well. On this building they had some hay as a buffer between the building and the containers. They are actually using shipping container like this on various buildings throughout the city. Some older building only have their facades left and the shipping containers are being used as support. Other building have shipping containers being used as protection to prevent building from collapsing on to busy streets.

Took a trip down to New Zealand’s South Island with a first stop in Christchurch which had earthquakes back in September 2010 and February 2011. I was surprised by the extent of the damage still visible.

I agree that it be interesting to see this take at an angle, or maybe a tighter crop off the top and bottom.
