didn’t make the retailer any money, but they probably got some costumers who are going to remember "nelly.com" and come back later to check because they have nice clothes.
“…people who use Groupon and Living Social coupons often don’t become regular customers. They’re just penny-pinchers who go from deal to deal. The merchants’ regular customers, meanwhile, get a 50% sale on stuff they would have bought anyway at full price.” source
Apple does a lot of adverts there in America (I suppose), but also there’s word of mouth, you see everyone with one, try it, like it (or not) AND (most importantly) they have a very good product. I wouldn’t buy a $600 device because of an add on the corner of a website.

There are no free lunches, there’s always a catch, I might be too suspicious or too cynical, but I see every add as a potential scam.
Every guy wants a larger penis, have you ever clicked on an add that promises to enlarge yours?
To me if a product or service is good enough it doesn’t need to be advertised, word of mouth takes care of it, if it requires to seduce customers through carefully planned add campaigns it might not be the miracle the advertiser promises you.
And about targeted adds I think Google and Facebook are just scamming the advertisers, I don’t think it works.

I just think that adds don’t work, I think the free web based on advertising is a scam for advertisers, suddenly they will reallise it doesn’t work and the bubble will pop.
I suppose people click on advertisements when they start using the internet, and then they learn to distinguish the page content from the advertising and their brains automatically ignore the adds, let alone clicking on them.

No, I’m giving them pageviews, which they use to pitch to advertising firms, which advertise for people that don’t care to install adblockers

What’s wrong with cards? Why do you want so bad for your ability to pay to be dependent of a device that more often than not can barely stay charged for a whole day?
If you had to charge (with electricity) your credit card every day AND risk it not being enough for being able to pay at night, would you consider it a good idea?
What’s wrong with cards?
They’re small, light, cheap, sturdy, it’s complicating for complication’s sake.
