no, in this case they dont want to extinguish anything, thats what microsoft did because new technologies posed a threat to windows long term dominance. in this case google “has nothing”. they are trying to dominate and control this technologies so they are profitable for their business.

Schmidt said it himself, google is the Microsoft from the Microsoft evil era. Chrome is very similar to IE6, has so many non standard extra functionality , they are even trying to push for something very similar to active x (google native client). hopefully something marvelous comes out of it (like AJAX did from IE6)
