The home button isn’t a ‘Legacy’ piece, it’s a critical piece of the interface with lots of functions (Screen shots, level awareness in the interface, diagnostics).
Removing the phyisical key on Android isn’t a great analogy, it would be like removing the ‘Home’ icon/button entirely from the Android world.

And I believe Mike Monteiro used to have his show on the 5by5 network as well, not sure why he left but no-one seemed hurt by it.
Jim Dalrymple also mentioned something about it being a business decision so perhaps it had to do with John wanting to change the show or get to a new audience.

I’ll sell my AAPL the day I think they are done making great products or the market is overly saturated with Apple products.
Until then I think it’s a better investment than my 401K.

How do I show my mom how to leave apps or find others without a home button?
Hint: a gesture isn’t obvious enough.

If you watch a lot of DVD movies I would suggest you get Neflix/Hulu or rent in iTunes.
You can add a DVD drive, you can’t make your laptop 1.5 pounds lighter.
If you want to play games don’t buy an Air. Or decided if you really want a gaming laptop or if you want a productivity laptop and can use a phone/iPad/console for games.

iOS devices are designed for mass market appeal first, power user a very distant last. Apple will add features for power users but only if they don’t muddy the waters for the basic users.

Just make sure you grab a calibration tool so that you have the color accuracy.

This is the only accurate response. What you will get from googling or personal storys will be anecdotes of positive or negative reliability. I was a service tech for years for both laptops and desktops of all brands, and everyone had a different opinion of how ‘X’ brand was the best but ‘Y’ brand was terrible.
Every piece of electronic equipment can have problems and save for specific design flaws or defects (the pre-unibody MacBooks has bezels that were prone to chip and crack on the edges which was an astetic problem but still annoying, and Apple fixed every one of those from people I knew even way out of warranty) and its more important what a company does when it breaks.
You cannot prevent or even accurately attribute damage from:
-mechanical failures in the Hard Drive, potentially due to moving the computer, drops (regardless of how small) or even just wear on moving parts like bearings.
-Power fluctuations (not even nessesarily surges) causing stress to electronic components like the power supply or power cable.
-Damage from upgrades like electrical shorts from people who have added memory or replaced the hard drive or even the battery and touched other components. You don’t have to see a spark go from your finger to have transferred enough of a jolt to a board or component to cause a problem instantly or even months later,
The nice thing about a Mac was how because of Mac OS I would see a lot less software issues from Viruses/Spyware andwe didn’t have to spend time fixing the registry. When a Mac was broken it was almost always a hardware issue.
Macs are sometimes less serviceable but most people i know would take it somewhere to get it fixed anyway. That’s the price you pay for having a more integrated product and much of the reasons Macs tend to be thinner and lighter. Although modern MacBook Pros and Airs are just as serviceable as their PC equivalents.

If you: Time > Money – Then get something cheap, pirate all your software, music, movies, etc. Get whatever phone, accessories, add-ons are within your price range you need and enjoy life.
If you: Time < Money – Then get a Mac and buy windows if you need it, use iTunes/App Store/Amazon to get your content. Get an iPhone, iPad, any of the million accessories are available in the ecosystem that work well and enjoy life.

If you are OK with waiting until October with your breaking phone. Then waking up in the middle of the night when it goes on pre-order, fighting the website crashing to get your order. Alternatively heading to an Apple store with millions of other people to get the one you want, waiting with huge lines.
If you don’t think you want to do that go walk into a store right now and get the one you want right now.

I just don’t understand how this improves my work flow. You can only be actively inputing or using one of these Apps at a time regardless of how many are on the screen.
Just like now on my 15MBP I am reading and replying to this in Full-screen in safari and I have my twitter app running still; when I want to see tweets I simply gesture back.

I think the core problem I have with inefficiencies around how they use space, provide unnecessary/extra/duplicate info.
The weather/time widget for example:
-Takes up 1/3 the screen real-estate
-There is a clock at the top of iOS already
-I am rarely in need of seeing the Day of the week or month
-Some give location which I find unnecessary because unlike the weather App you wouldn’t use it to see other locations info
-Hi/Low added clutter
-I don’t enjoy the “Flip-numbers” theme for how the numbers switch, i think the crease in the center is distracting and unnecessary.
Many widgets seems to have similar issues.
This is my simple opinion as to why I feel they are unnecessary to my enjoyment of iOS. Yours may vary.

Apple’s strategies around product revamps are not this aggressive. I have no doubt much or all of this will be addressed at some point in the future (Although I doubt the examples you gave are the solutions that Apple will come up with) but expecting even 2 of those is unlikely due to the desire to polish to a sparkle each feature.

I am commenting to say I enjoy “Snatch” references, and since Vlad is European I’m not suprised he made one.
I appeare to be the only one who noticed or cared. Sad.
