All I remember is that when you download a game thanks to their Gaikai acquisition you’ll be able to play almost immediately while the game downloads. I don’t know if that will be possible from a disc purchase though.

Couldn’t find anything for the First, which absolutely has the best Android battery life I’ve experienced in a phone. But I did find Anandtech’s battery rundown chart, I wish I got 8 hours but the 6 or 7 I do get gets me through a day and a half depending if I stream music all day or not.

I have a PS3 with a 640gb hard drive in it and it is full thanks to Playstation plus and mandatory game installs. I have to keep deleting games to fit new ones. I think the average person will be fine with 500gb on the new Xbox but it will become limiting for the more hardcore customers especially over the course of years and the fact you have to install the entire game not just a portion as the PS3 forces you to do.

Tell that to both my HTC First and iPhone 5. 5 hours minimum average 6 tops 7.

This is exactly how I hold mine as well and it seems people don’t appreciate the peace of mind you have when you have no worries about dropping your phone. When I had a Nexus 4 it was so slippery and since I couldn’t grip it securely I did drop it a few times. It didn’t break thankfully but I could see it happening. I like being able to securely hold my phone and operate it without shuffling it around in my hands while still only using my thumb to operate it. Comes in handy all the time while working (IT tech).

Airplay works literally seamlessly. I’ve messed with DLNA and once you get it working it works fine but it’s no where near as reliable as airplay is. If it displays on my screen (iPhone or iPad) with Airplay I can play it on my Apple TV. The only thing I’ve encountered that didn’t work was Amazon’s Prime Video which has restrictions against Airplay. Being able to open literally any music or video app on my phone and push the video to the screen is the benefit. Don’t downplay ease of use and reliability. That’s Airplay’s strength. I’ve done the Xbox 360 DLNA root with PlayOn, Plex and using the built-in Windows DLNA sharing and while it works most of the time sometimes the videos just error out and you have to try them again and then they work. My experience with it on my PS3 is worse and that flat out almost never works so I gave up on it entirely. Airplay vs DLNA is literally general consumer vs technically savvy.

That’s one thing that I love about the iPhone. If I have an issue with it I schedule an appointment at the store, they swap it out within a few minutes with no troubles any time I’ve done it. Then as I’m walking away from the store I put my password in and boom, it starts to restore it to exactly the state it was in. On Android it backs up the apps but none of the app data so you lose a lot of stuff if you were to do it this way. I know this limitation so I do a manual backup on the computer first but not having to worry about this has a wonderful feeling attached to it. If I lose my phone I feel fine because every night my phone is backed up automatically.

The battery situation on the N4 is bad. It’s the first phone I’ve had in a while that couldn’t make it the whole day on a weekend and I’m not going to micromanage the usage of a smartphone when other phones make it 5 to 7 hours of screen on time and can have 20-30% remaining the next day if I crash at a friends for the night. I returned it after about 2 weeks primarily because of inability to keep a solid connection to wifi and bluetooth at the same time. I listen to music anywhere from 2 to 5 hours a day and it was killing me to constantly mess with it to get the music to play properly.

To build off that, another reason is to understand OSX more intimately. I originally hackintosh’d some of my computers when it was much more complicated to do and in the process learned a lot about the inner workings of the operating system that anyone short of an Apple “Genius” would likely never encounter so now when something goes awry on my real Macs or a Hackintosh (my work PC) I can fix it up pretty easily.

Another anecdote: No one I know uses nor has heard of whatsapp, everyone I know with iOS devices use iMessage because it just happens automatically between them. If you’re on an iPhone and message someone with a iPhone, iPod touch, iPad or Mac it will get to them and that requires absolutely nothing beyond texting their phone number like normal. The benefit of it happening without a users intent to use it can’t be overstated.

The Apple TV can learn any remotes buttons so any spare remote you have around can work. I set it to use the DVD buttons from my surround sound to control the ATV since I don’t use those buttons normally anyway.

I had a Nexus 4 for a while but it was just large enough that I had to reposition it in my hands often. Larger isn’t better for everyone that’s for sure.

I’ll do a full run down when my replacement First comes, I dropped my first First and got a small crack on the left bezel so I am in the process of getting a replacement. It isn’t even on the screen but I can’t deal with it being there. I’m using my iPhone 5 for the time being. I switch between them often, the First is night and day better than my Nexus 4 was. That things battery is trash though. I could get through a weekday if I kept it charging at my desk but it died every single weekend day I used it. It’s a cool phone but I need to have a reliable battery. In comparison I went out with the First on a Saturday at about 10am and crashed at a friends place and still had 33% the next day when I went to breakfast.
I actually think that once you get the Sony Smartwatch configured properly it’s a solid device. It has a nice Spotify remote app that works with swipes and all my notifications get sent to it promptly. It even has a new events widget where all the notifications go and you can swipe through your notification history which is something the Pebble can’t do right now. I have a Pebble on the way, I backed a Red one so it should arrive soon. I have a feeling it will be hard to pick between them.
