I don’t think it matters much, Moto just doesn’t want to pay. They ask for 2.5% of the device cost which is ok under FRAND and is a lot of money, so I still think the goal is for MS to just cross-license.

Well, MS is most likely infringing on Moto patents, so the tactics here is to cross-license and pay no tax, if I understand it right. Google will probably want to have a broader license to be protected from Apple as well and/or protect some of the other Android manufacturers, but that is probably lower priority.

Woodside said in a statement, "Our aim is simple: to focus Motorola Mobility’s remarkable talent on fewer, bigger bets, and create wonderful devices that are used by people around the world."
That’s exactly what needs to happen – several devices that are well supported, well tested and look good. If they pull it off, I think it’s a winner for Google.

You should remember about the tax benefit from the purchase. Google can take an immediate 1bn in tax deductions and 700m in foreign tax deductions. They can also deduct up to 700mln each year up to 2019.

The new CEO said that new Moto will focus on less devices but will make them more important – I think it’s a helpful development. No need to make a hundred phones and take forever to update them.

I looked up a difference and I don’t understand the difference from this patent for example (is’t from 1982):
http://goo.gl/5tQQl
Electrical line-connector
Abstract
An electrical line-connector device for safety application. The electrical contacts of the two-part line-connector which connect electrical conductors with one another are flush contacts, which come into contact when the connecting parts are brought together. Each connecting part contains a part of a holding-magnet arrangement which includes a permanent magnet, assuring the holding-together of the connecting parts and the required contact pressure. The one connecting part contains a switch device which is formed in such a way that the flush contacts only carry voltage when the connecting parts are placed together. The switch device can be a familiar magnetic switch, which is switched on by the permanent magnet in the other connecting part when the connecting parts are placed together.
Vs Apple’s:
Magnetic connector for electronic device
Abstract
An electrical plug and receptacle relying on magnetic force to maintain contact are disclosed. The plug and receptacle can be used as part of a power adapter for connecting an electronic device, such as a laptop computer, to a power supply. The plug includes electrical contacts, which are preferably biased toward corresponding contacts on the receptacle. The plug and receptacle each have a magnetic element. The magnetic element on one or both of the plug and receptacle can be a magnet, which is preferably a permanent rare earth magnet although electromagnets may also be used. The magnetic element on the plug or receptacle that does not include a magnet is composed of ferromagnetic material. When the plug and receptacle are brought into proximity, the magnetic attraction between the magnet and its complement, whether another magnet or a ferromagnetic material, maintains the contacts in an electrically conductive relationship.

From a photographer point of view f/2.5 is the same as f/2.4 and it’s very close to f/2.0 too.
1 stop from f/2.0 is f/2.8 – so this is less then one stop difference which is not that much. And sometimes the quality of the picture is sacrificed for the brightness, so you can’t judge just by f stops if it’s a high-end lens or not.

My account was hacked way before April 20th, I kept resetting the pws and hackers kept getting it back. Now I understand how they did it. I actually suspected there was some flaw, since I did the reset on the clean computer and made sure password is long and not repeated. This flaw was there for some time and apparently hackers knew it. I think the first hack was about 3 month ago.

But when you finance with other people money they have a part in the potential income, here you might get a game and a t-shirt for $250. Or might get game goods for $5.
Honestly I don’t understand why people call kickstarter donations “investments”. They are donations, sometimes you get a small gift for your donation, but it’s not investment.

The problem is that they can’t control Apple. If Apple one day decides to change their browser search to Bing and maps to OpenStreetMap Google will lose all the revenue. Or they might want a piece of the pie.
So, it’s not only about the amount of money now, it’s about being in control and insuring that revenue in the future.
Also – the tablets could change the game a lot, and if there was no Android a big piece of income might have gone the other way.

Because you want to have it? It’s not like it is very hard to do. That’s the Android way – make a system that could be tweaked by outside devs, you don’t need to wait for Google to invent it, 3rd party developers will do it and if it is popular enough it will be incorporated.

iPhone is quite comparable to high-end Android phones. And there is nothing wrong to have and sell cheap phones as long as they are profitable. Everyone can’t sell only high-end phones.
