As we all should know now Valve is a company constantly trying to be innovative. Making sequels is quite hard if you follow this approach as an already created universe does not allow for a lot of new mechanics. It normally is just more story with a similar playing experience. Valve really wants to innovate with Half Life 3 and I believe they will wait until they have finished the next version of the source engine before continuing Gordon Freeman’s story.
