To use any of the Metro API’s you must sell your app through the MS app store, which you have to pay to publish to. That mean no open source metro software, also no company-private software. If this remains the case at Win8 release-time Metro will be DOA, If I was interested in Win8 at all I’d disable Metro on startup without a second thought.
