Are children the reason the comment section at The Verge is now devoid of any logic or factual analysis beyond “OMFG APLE” and “Go Google!”? These users are unbelievably blinded by their obedience to one company that the same fans who used to cry “Options! Competition! Innovation!” and now saying “Google should own everything! Who needs anything else?! Google buying this to implement its features IS innovation!”
Their wildly ignorant.

Ugh, I’m tired of reading your ridiculous responses. Just because something is ugly doesn’t mean Google should buy it. The world needs more choices for mapping solutions beyond Microsoft, Apple, and Google. Why are you saying we need less so “Google can make Waze pretty?”

This just in: just because Google Maps is free means we don’t need any other free maps app! Competition is useless and apparently having less options is better for the consumer!
And of course Google is going to limit this tech…
Tell me how Sparrow’s doing on iOS.

…. how did me calling you an Android fan imply that you hated everyone else? Hell, you wrote “goooo Google;” where did I assume anything about you?

IMO it’s a toss up. Waze has a pretty terrible interface (whereas I like the look of Nokia’s mapping solution) but it has a lot of cool social features. If someone saw red light cameras, a policeman, or an accident while driving, you’ll be notified that it’s up ahead. The negatives to Nokia’s maps are that it constantly seems to stop updating the map when I’m driving and it pisses me off. Though, neither of them can beat Google Maps on iOS in terms of polish and stability.

Google is entirely able to implement social features on their own; they don’t need to remove the best alternative from the market or deprive another company from getting into their business. I imagine Google could implement red light camera, police, and speeding traps onto their maps for much, much less than they’d pay for Waze.

Jeez, what is wrong with Android fans? This is awful for the consumer and would eliminate one of the best free alternatives to Google Maps but “GOD [you] hope” Google does that?

Eh, sorry, it was named after the screen size. If it were named after the iteration, then where were the 9 other Nexus devices before the Nexus 10? (Same goes with Nexus 7, too).

No, that would be the person who just disclosed a zero-day exploit to the general public. How do you not see this……?

Nope, and don’t get me wrong; I’m not anywhere close to a Microsoft fanboy so I’m not about to defend them for everything they’ve done. Though, I belief this current era of Microsoft is much, much better than the Microsoft that was around before Windows 7 and Windows Phone and I just think they should get some credit for taking the world’s least secure software and turning it into an extremely safe and stable OS. Hell, WP8 hasn’t been hacked yet and WP7 was only truly hacked for a handful of devices.

That’s fantastic, really! Though, just because they’ve aided Microsoft many times beforehand, that doesn’t discount from what just occurred. A doctor isn’t allowed to knowingly injure someone after saving hundreds of people. I don’t hate Google; I hate people who put millions at risk for absolutely no reason.

No, that’s a terrible viewpoint on zero days. It doesn’t matter if the flaw “is the regardless;” this exploit could very well have been previously undiscovered. Now, every one looking to write exploits and viruses for Windows knows of a brand new hole all thanks to Google’s employee.
Coming up with a hypothetical “Well, maybe bad guys found it first!” situation doesn’t excuse the fact that he revealed a (as far as we know) previously unknown exploit because he “didn’t have time” to deal with Microsoft. Closing his mouth would’ve been better, no?
