Neither side appears to have a huge advantage with exclusives. Most of the big publishers are supporting both platforms. You can choose whichever console you want and be reasonably certain you’ll find some decent games for it.

Square Enix has been adopting a similar strategy with Final Fantasy on mobile. They’ve released several spin-offs and ported several old titles to both iOS and Android. They keep doing it so it must be profitable for them but I have yet to encounter anyone who’s played through any of the Final Fantasy games all the way on a tablet. I tried and found the controls to be too frustrating.

Maybe, but the world is changing. Gaming on the PC used to make sense because I owned a computer anyway but today I don’t need one. My house is running out of space and I no longer have dedicated space to keep a large desk for a computer, monitor and surround sound speakers. I no longer own a full sized PC and instead I own an old laptop that I keep in a closet and gets turned on once about once a week.
Gaming on a console may not look as good but I know if I put a disk into my PS3 it’s going to work, and performance will be acceptable. Owning a console is a fraction the cost of a PC, it takes up less space in my home, and I don’t have to think about drivers, anti-virus or the other operating issues that go with PCs.
A large number of my co-workers are going the same way. A few are even looking into eliminating TV sets from their homes because they watch all of their content on Tablets.

I agree. I rarely get exclusive access to the TV so my favorite feature of the the Wii U is that I can play it when someone else is watching the set. Sony’s entire PS4 library being playable from the Vita is a huge selling point.

Oh, two weeks ago. If I could go back in time, things would be different. No doubt. No doubt in my mind. You better believe things had been different. I’d have gone pro in a heartbeat. I’d be making millions of dollars and living in a big ol’ mansion somewhere, soaking it up in a hot tub with my soul mate.

That’s not creepy, it’s awesome! If Kinect could watch you rubbing your belly and complaining about hunger how awesome would it be if it started showing you ads for Dominos Pizza? I’d happily let someone watch me every moment of every day if it helps them sell me better products. I honestly can’t wait for a Kinect to be installed in my shower.

With the distribution issues for 4K video and framerate problems of 4K games I see the mostly beneficial for still photography. Any camera over 3 megapixels can take photos higher than 1080p.

Creating games takes a long time and the console is likely to experience a content drought for several months if not years (Just look at the Wii U). If would be an easier sell if the console could play last generations games while the new content trickles out. I bought a PS3 at launch and used it exclusively as a Blu-ray player / PS2 emulator for nearly two years.

I get the feeling hat Microsoft is bowing to pressure from the big publishers to secure all of these content partnerships. Indies won’t provide Microsoft as much revenue as EA or NFL partnerships will. This is a console designed to generate as much revenue as possible for Microsoft and while they may alienate some people by blocking indies and used game sales they have guaranteed they’ll have enough exclusive content to make this console a success.
