Now that they aren’t Xbox-exclusive, hope to see a PC port. Always wanted to play the Halo series, but couldn’t justify spending $300 to play a shooter on a clunky console controller. Especially since all the other games I am/was interested were available on PC or the PS3.
Edit: Before anyone says anything, I know Halo 1 & 2 are available, but doesn’t make sense without 3.

Actually I bet they’re crushed. $610K to establish a relationship with an influential CEO of a major corporation is an absolute steal.

I disagree completely. I think the only way to make this tech viable is to push as much of the infrastructure as possible into a pocketable device (Seriously, how often are you out of bluetooth range of your phone?), and focus on integrating the HUD and sensors into a tiny package that can seamlessly integrate into normal glasses. (eventually contacts, implants?)
Battery tech just isn’t moving fast enough to make a headset with integrated GPS & Cellular comfortable for prolonged use. Not to mention the heat from modern SOCs.
tl,dr; Google Glass makes a lot more sense as a peripheral instead of a stand-alone product.

Also if you don’t have a connection on first launch, it will go into a 30 day trial mode, so you can still use the software until you get a internet connection. (At least that was the case when I installed Photoshop CS 5.5 on the laptop and forgot to launch it before my flight :-) )

Can’t speak for anyone else, but prior to subscription pricing, I always “creatively” licensed my Adobe products. Could never find a way to budget nearly a grand for Photoshop. Was a heck of a lot easier to budget a $30 per month subscription though. Especially since year-over-year it was cheaper than licensing outright.

Finally, we need a smarter grid. We need to be able to crank people’s water heaters to max when there’s too much load. We need to be able to crank AC and EV car chargers down when there’s too much demand. Just having that flexibility would make a massive difference.
Not to nitpick your examples, but trust is going to be the biggest issue with a smart grid, and trust is far less abundant than fossil fuels. Imagine the first time a doctor can’t get to the hospital because the Utility company decided they didn’t need to charge their electric car overnight, or a climate-controlled facility shuts down because an algorithm decided that the AC didn’t need to be set at a particular level…
To the average person it sounds like a whole new level of bureaucracy. It’s no longer enough to simply pay for what you use. Now you have to pay for a premium “We promise not to fuck with your thermostat” plan. Hell, look at The Verge when the topic of Net Neutrality comes up, now imagine that 1000-fold once “Grid Neutrality” becomes a thing.
I’m not saying this isn’t a problem that can’t be overcome with policy and tech, but policy moves much more slowly…
