I thought “Infinity” Box would be the best bet. Use the X in the middle of the ∞ to keep the XBox branding. Call it the “XBox Infinity” or the “Infinex Box” or whatever, but the users can still just call it an XBox and the logo is just retooled to look like: ∞Box (or maybe have the ∞ on top)
Shrug.

They are advertising their hardware. It isn’t their job to sell the software. The camera is what separates their hardware from the rest of the lineup. Honestly, a lot of people DO care a lot about the camera, especially young people who take a lot of pictures for facebook and instagram and such. People are paid a lot of money to tell them what to advertise so honestly, If their marketing research says to sell the camera, they should probably sell the camera.

I have a variety of mostly woody scents ranging from bright and sporty to more earthy and spicy. I bore easily of just one so I like mixing it up and doing some layering. I’ve never found an expensive brand that was worth the price difference compared to what I can get at a Ross (a lot of those expensive brands end up there eventually anyways) so a lot of them are little known labels and some I honestly couldn’t tell you what they’re called anymore. At mostly 5-15 bucks a pop, I can buy a few of them and just keep the ones I like and still save money compared to shopping at a department store. The rest get boxed back up and given as gifts to people I don’t care enough about to shop for. It works perfectly.
A few I picked up on a recent trip that totaled about 20 bucks:
Kanon Norwegian Wood. (subtle, relaxing, woodsy scent. good for everyday wear and layers well. A new favorite.)
Nicole Miller for Men (little strong on the vetiver, but after half an hour or so it mellows into a notable but mellow day scent)
Fujiyama Homme. (Sportier, crisper, should do especially well in the summer)

16:10 is good, so is 4:3, but after playing with my nook hd+ for the last couple weeks I’m really growing to love the 3:2 aspect ratio. Not sure how it would scale up, but it seems like it should do just fine for the 6-10" zone.
5 days ago on Why 16:9 is the best ratio for Windows tablets...

It is the reason I haven’t bothered buying an iPad yet. The 200 bucks I spent on an HD+ was as much as I was willing to spend for something that would be primarily a consumption device for me.

My personal wishlist?
Forward-facing speakers. Oriented to be on either side when in landscape mode.
Soft-touch paint/coating. (on the back only)
Wacom (or equivalent) digitizer and stylus.
Fingerprint scanner on home button. Automatically unlocks (multiple user profiles?), use for anything requiring payments, etc.
Smaller vertical bezel, comparable to mini.
Properly laminated screen.
I think the thickness is about right, it but it would be nice if it had a slightly concave back or something comparable for a bit of extra grip.
And of course, the lighter the better.

Indeed. Phone should become “The Nexus” while the tablets are the “Nexus #”

The only way they could justify the parallel product line in my eyes is if they made it a phone.

I picked up a 32 gig HD+ today. Going to try a few launcher options this week and if I decide to keep it I’ll do a proper root. The UI certainly isn’t as smooth as my nexus, but apps run well and the screen is truly gorgeous.

Actually, “Incredible” is a very strong word and I don’t want to be accused of over-selling it. Lets take that down to a “gorgeous” or maybe “unexpectedly fantastic.”

The screens on both the HD and the HD+ are pretty incredible. Software is pretty much the only down side to them, other than the HD+ being kind of silly looking.

As a design for the touchscreen it all sounds great. Most Windows machines are still going to be mouse and keyboard-centric for years to come though. You should be keeping both forms of interaction in mind, not to mention a desktop user needs to be able to swap between programs and documents quickly and easily. Every extra swipe or click is an unnecessary annoyance.
I look forward to seeing how this progresses.

There are some things here I like here, so I’ll start there: Single color tiles classes the place up something serious. I’m all for allowing the user to select a color theme or a solid color for their tiles. Some may find that the white icons aren’t distinct enough for quick access but they can always just keep ‘developer preset’ on.
Having the tiles just pop over the desktop is a pretty obvious and elegant way to bridge between the two and I’ve played with the idea myself. It goes a long way in easing the transition between the two interfaces. I fear and expect Microsoft wants to migrate away from the desktop entirely though, so I’m not sure how desirable an option it is for them in that goal.
On the other hand, your taskbar is awkward. The icons are a little small for tablet interface and putting them on the left side is less natural than the bottom for a mouse (and slower/out of the way on a touch laptop). It also means you are limited to icons-only or mouse-over in order to select the correct folder window, or instance of program x.
Hope to see more soon. All the more reason we need a design forum up in this V.

I usually shut down my system when I’m done for the night. Turn it back on when I get home the next day. I could set it to sleep or hibernate or whatever but what is the point when windows 8 boots almost as fast as it takes to wake up?

There are certainly some nice comparisons and more in-depth info here, but most of it could have been presented much quicker. 20 minutes for a review means they’re really only going to attract hardcore gadget nerds and people specifically looking for reviews on this phone. I think there is a middle ground to be had.

My Galaxy Nexus on 4.2.2 runs just as fast and smooth as my 4S other than the browser and a few other specific tasks. That wasn’t true when I first got the phone though. iOS has the polish, but the overall experience I would give to Android these days.
Android up until 2.3 or so certainly owed a lot to iOS though, so it is hard to say where it would have been without the iPhone and iOS as a reference point. 5 years might not have been far off.

We could easily drop half of the forums to make room for new ones. I’d love a Design forum to contribute to and get feedback from.

I pretty much don’t use the Modern UI at all on 8 and it is still the best version of Windows I’ve ever used. My only problems with the UX is how jarring it can be moving back and forth between the two environments. I’ve minimized my use of Start and the fullscreen apps in general though, which really isn’t the intended use of Windows 8.
Comment
I agree about how I use the Desktop. Even when I’m not actively typing or painting or browsing or ‘whatevering’ in a window I am still thinking about doing one of those things. The jarring flash of Start on my 24" screen disrupts my ‘flow’, and really, flow is important to me. Flow is how I roll.
TO be honest I can get along just fine with it set up the way it is. I’m not some butt-hurt stick in the mud. I just think they gave up too quickly on a seamless experience and I’d like to find a way to bring it back.
Stuff like the update notification is important to the overall cohesion of the experience. I don’t want pop-ups and update alerts necessarily, but being reminded that they exist now and again is handy since I’m almost never in the store itself. For those of us who wish to exist as much on the desktop as possible, these systems simply don’t currently facilitate usage of the store, and thus creates even more of a barrier and less of a reason to delve into the Start screen and the rest of the Modern UI.
If the benefits of a Start menu can be offered in a pop-up menu that offers fewer but more contextual options, that does offer an interesting possibility. I am doubtful of how plausible that is for the very near future though, as it would require starting from scratch, and this exercise is more of a ‘now’ thing than something for 5 years down the line.
Thanks.

It is about as easy a bit of software as one could possibly make it. I don’t think you’ll find yourself having any problems with it.

HIgher resolution is always preferable as long as the UI is scaled properly. Go to your local retailer and see for yourself.

This is probably quite a bit rougher, just because I’m trying to push out of the comfort of the classic B.M.(Before Metro) Start Menu. I think it has promise though.
