Yeah, that comment would have been hilarious for him to say “I assume nothing because I am not racist. This is just like Britta from Community would say.”

I think he was implying that they produce high quality products and continue to support them with quick updates, even after the product’s life cycle.

I consider myself something of a GUI-design-Nazi and I have to say I’m very impressed. It looks like what Sense should have been, seriously. I hope HTC offers you a job.
The only thing I don’t really like is the battery icon. I think the green has a cheap feel, and reminds me a bit of Gingerbread (which in turn makes it feel outdated). I would try going for the same light grey monochrome look the other statusbar icons have.

I seriously considered purchasing a 3DS today, but I decided against it for one reason: software distribution on it is terrible. After being spoiled with App Store and Play Store purchases ($0.99 to $9.99, generally, for games), the idea of paying $30+ for a single physical cartridge I have to carry around with the device just feels… archaic.

I really think this is a point that’s overlooked too often. Why is it that a few people in their free time can come up with ROM releases faster (and often of higher quality) than the OEMs?
My friend has a 99% functional ICS build running smooth and stable on his Droid X, and yet Verizon/Motorola have decided that not even the Droid X2 (let alone Droid X) will receive ICS. But if one dude can kang AOKP, working around a locked bootloader, and get it running nearly perfectly before Motorola’s flagship even has an official ICS release, what does that say about the OEM/carrier update process?
Surely those with access to ALL of the device’s source code as well as intimate knowledge of the hardware and software should be able to build updates if some hobbyist can hack something together within a month, right? So what’s holding them back?

Not to turn this into a Galaxy Nexus pictures thread, but I’ve been pretty happy with the camera on it actually, despite coming from an iPhone 4.

Locking the bootloader isn’t going to reduce warranty returns for things like this. People are still going to try to modify their device, and keeping the bootloader locked just means that devs are going to try more complicated and risky workarounds. Once they figure it out, they’ll be posting a walkthrough so Joe Blow can try his own hand at a complicated and risky workaround.
If anything, I would argue that these restrictions cause more problems. Make the device easy to flash to and it’s just as easy to flash back to stock and fix problems. Warranty returns? Flash back to stock and refurb it.
The reality is probably something more along the lines of carriers wanting to prevent people from doing things like tethering.

Because supporting local businesses doesn’t necessarily help the consumer, at least not directly and immediately. Even if local B&M stores go out of business due to consumers buying things cheap online, those consumers will still be able to buy those things cheap online.

1. It’s done just fine, but there are a couple of tiny scratches in the black ridged bezel around it.
2. There’s not a single scratch on it.
3. Nothing “major” but I did develop a few tiny scratches after only a week or so of using the phone, without any abuse, just from slipping inside jean pockets. I’ve had my Nexus since December 15th and I only recently (like, two or three days ago) put a ZAGG InvisibleShield on the screen. I have to say, as much as I hate screen protectors, I wish I had put one of these one since day 1.

I would prefer those businesses didn’t exist/exist in their current form then, but I know that’s not realistic. Still, fuck them.

I agree. I love everything about this phone except the battery life. I hate seeing reviews/posts with people saying they’re getting 11-16 hours or whatever of battery life, while neglecting to say they’re only using the phone for a total of an hour.
This phone will standby forever, longer than most Android phones (and I think it even gives the iPhone a run for its money in that respect). But turn the thing on and actually USE it and you’ll be reaching for a charger pretty quickly.
