Vlingo was more like iPhone’s Voice Control (released in 2009) than Siri. S Voice is more like Siri than Vlingo.
Was Vlingo conversational?
Did it remember context one command after another?
Did it show speech bubbles?
Did it include working controls of clocks and alarms while interacting with the user?
Did it show inline data sheets?
Did it respond back to the user?
Did it say “42” to the question of meaning of life?
How many "yes"es did you get?
Vlingo was just a voice enabled control, like Apple’s Voice Control, so stop making it seem like Apple copied Vlingo with Siri. Even die-hard Android fans can see what’s happening here. You don’t have to blindly defend Samsung.

So, nothing to defend about this laptop’s “original design”?

These guys have no shame. What a complete ripoff. No wonder Apple has to resort to all kinds of lawsuits. Tim Cook was right on calling them out by saying that Apple doesn’t want to be the developer for the world. God forbid, their product becomes popular and all the cockroaches come out from their holes to cash in on their hard work. Shame on them!

I understand the app store best so that’s what I can comment on.
As for lack of well-formed APIs, sure you can label apps such as Path as malware but the same applies to any ad supported app that tracks you using various means. Or any location based apps that mines your location. But that’s not what this article is about.

iTunes account hacking has nothing to do with this article (malware affecting your mobile device). Some of the affected users did not even own iDevices.
That’s like saying your DVD player is malware infected because Netflix.com website got hacked.

As malware grows more sophisticated, however, it may become a greater problem for other app stores as well.
I know you are trying to be fair here, but I don’t think this is possible in the App Store (maybe even Windows marketplace). Especially not via SMS. There is no API that I’m aware of that lets you send SMS programmatically : http://stackoverflow.com/questions/10848/how-to-programmatically-send-sms-on-the-iphone
There could be other malware tricks, but iOS’ solid record of the past 5 years proves there is no reason for lumping iOS app store with Android’s.

Not talking about default web page but the datasheet view which is exactly like Siri’s which is sourced from wolfram alpha. Also not talking about just a shaded button but the totality of it (same label, same style, same placement).
“The only thing I can tell you is I have never seen the like of bizarre obsession with” Samsung fans to easily justify, away that this is not a ripoff but just a “coincidence” or “there is no other way to do it” or pick one example and “prove” that that small implementation was done before.
Are you that blind to acknowledge that S Voice would not exists as it does today if Siri was not launched six months ago? Was this design (ui and ux) inevitably coming out of Samsung’s revered design house?

Why Motorola if you’re not going to have vertical integration? $12 billion is an awful lot of money for a patent fight.

At least that was an original attempt. But in all seriousness, this is a good proof of why Samsung is being blamed for “slavishly copying” Apple. Maybe some assistants had one or two features that were similar to Siri but they did not respond back, were not interactive/conversational like this, did not say “42” as the meaning of life, did not show inline timers, clocks, etc.
Heck, even the S-Voice “data sheet” looks just like Siri’s as well as the “search the web” button:

Like clockwork, you can predict what Samsung is going to release a few months after a major Apple announcement.

‘Skating to where the puck is now, rather than where it’s going to be.’
Actually, the quote is the opposite. Apple skates to where the puck is going to be.
