Also, the platform is mostly mature. I am not saying that it is perfect, for example I would like to see ListView perf improvements & a new Home, just mature.
So a new version of Android are not as necessary as they were 2 years ago.
Furthermore, if you look back at the last months, there are 2 other main vectors for Android updates :
-Google Play Services is available on any Android devices running 2.2+. For example it means that the gaming APIs that were unveiled yesterday are instantly available on 98% of Android devices (and for the 2% that run 2.1 or inferior, simply ignoring them can be a good move..)
-The Android compatibility library got a new revision. For example the now official Sliding Menu design pattern has got the necessary classes. It is instantly available to all android developers and can be used in any Android app right now.
It does not solve everything about Android updates, but it makes them far less important.

Very true.
Tax evasion is a real problem in France when Apple, Google, Microsoft, Amazon, … all employ legal schemes to pay very low taxes whereas they make a lot of business in the country. And whatever your views are on taxes, companies making huge profits but that don’t pay a lot of taxes are not a good thing.
The problem & solution are European though. And while it is relatively easy to create a new French law (especially when the current government has the majority in the Parliament and Senate to push its projects), reworking the whole European system is obviously way harder.
Imo The French tax system itself would need to be revamped as well though. It is way too complex, but such a reform would be very unpopular (it would look like new taxes are coming). So even though most politician agree that such a change is needed, none of the last governments has tried to do anything about it.
By the way, this new tax seems to come from the Lescure report, there are many things in this report, this new tax proposal is almost anecdotical.

I wonder if it is possible. It would take a lot of efforts to make people move away from Skype and use another product. I don’t like Skype, but I still have to use it from times to times because I need to speak with someone that use it exclusively.

Quora always has the answer for this kind of question : http://www.quora.com/Viber/How-viber-is-generating-revenue
copy/paste :
Hi, we’re actually doing around 70MM minutes a day and well over 6B messages per month.. :)
Anyway, we currently do not generate revenues. In the future, we will offer additional, premium services, that we will charge for.
Current services will remain free. Forever. It’s what’s commonly referred to as a “freemium” model.
So, another startup that waits before trying to get a real business model.

those are the badges devs use on their websites to put a link to their apps.
Of course they have a similar appearance, it would be totally ridiculous to have two very different badges for the same kind of link on two different stores… The logos themselves have nothing in common.

You can have a Play Store app that does not appear in search results (like Chrome Beta).
Banning out of the store updates is pretty logical. Sooner or later someone would have used it to install a first harmless app from the Store and then download a new version with dozen of new nasty authorizations.

yeah; there are some seriously messed-up things on some subreddits; but I am pretty sure that it does not even compare to what can be found in the corners of the darknet.
And I really don’t want to know.

Last week there was a post asking for the most obscures corners of reddit. There are some very weird subreddits. I doubt that there is a subreddit dedicated to child porn, but there are some equally disturbing things.
