You should try Cinnamon. It comes with Linux Mint and can be installed on Ubuntu. The default color scheme (green) doesn’t fit everyone, and I’m sure you know how to change the Cinnamon, GTK, and icon themes.

If you patch some dlls and get a custom theme, the taskbar can be a different color than the window borders. I had a dark taskbar and white window borders, which contrasts with the text on both of them.

I guess Microsoft doesn’t test Windows with Window titles shown in the taskbar.

I think it looks rather nice for a Windows 8 Start Screen. I don’t see the point of using the Start screen on a non-touch computer, though.

Yeah, except Google Docs doesn’t crash within seconds of opening a document.

I’m using Chrome 28 on Linux, and the Office webapps have crashed every time i try to open a document.

Also, Office web apps don’t seem to support editing headers and footers…

For three finger tap with Synaptics trackpad, you need to edit the configuration file and enable the option.
