I think the PS4 is going to be a fine gaming machine but damn that home screen looks like a hot mess.
I think somewhere in the wave of positive PR for Sony (which was well deserved), we seemed to forget to take a look at what Playstation hasn’t really been all that great at, menu’s and online system polish. I like the step of putting a share button on the controller (even though its a bit hypocritical of me to like that but not be too warm to always online policies of the Xbox One) but Sony has to do more with the “dashboard” experience this time around.
Slightly related, I’m kinda bummed about the analog mic with this generation of Playstation too. Considering the headset for the Xbox one is digital wideband, I expected something better. On the plus side, it looks like there’s a remote port at the bottom of the new dualshock controller…

rick rubin, timbo, pharell, swizz and jay-z in one room. nuff said.
The only thing that makes me sour about this whole thing is that he tried this with the black album already.
Pharell and Swizz are versatile enough to rhyme on other people’s beats, which should make things interesting at least. The industry is always hungry for a Jay (or Kanye) effort though.

Hmm, I would say he steals his soul more often than Kanye’s though I get the general sentiment.
I will say that I think the whole stealing Ye’s flow thing has been a little overblown since Run This Town came out.

There is no reason OnStar could not be implemented as DRM.
It’s a subscription based service. If you bought a new car with Onstar, you would have to let them know so that the service can follow you to that vehicle. Sounds a lot like the license transfer process when you swap 360’s, don’t it?
And despite being condescending, I will respond to the second point. If Mercedes decided to exit the secondary market, would that change your opinion? What if Mercedes said that only they would be allowed to resell the vehicle?
Now enjoy your seat.

The blogs jumped all over “under 10 inches” when what MS said was “small screen”. With Office for iPad almost certainly launching in the next year, they have no incentive to offer it for free on an iPad form factor x86 Windows tablet.
No, the blogs spoke to people at Microsoft about it, then updated their posts to reflect it.
Feeling too lazy to click a link?
Update #2: We tracked down a rep at Computex who said that the bundled software will only come with Windows 8 tablets under 10 inches, which will evidently rule out a lot of devices.

B. Have just Shut up because really Microsoft hasn’t given anything to champion without being defaulted to supporting the suspension of consumer rights.
helluva comment. For the record, I’m still on the fence about this generation but I at least have enough good sense to wait for BUILD. Mainly because all of MS’s moves in the past 12-18 months have been about ecosystem building. That’s why that “modern pc on your tv” comment resonates with me. My choice at the moment is decided whether or not I want a gaming system in a traditional sense or a “modern” one.

Do you think Mercedes should find a way to prevent cars from being sold on the secondary market?
There’s no DRM for cars…they entered the used car market themselves or have you not heard of a certified pre-owned vehicle.

Except they are taking away ownership. It’s pretty clear.
I would agree with you if they can revoke your access to a game that you own at any time. Here, ownership is being defined as “do whatever you want with the disc” which doesn’t account for downloaded games. I’m not apologizing for MS, I just personally care about different things than lending or borrowing games after I gave up with GameFly’s crap-ass service.

A small manufacturer like CZC will not be able to negotiate free Office with Microsoft, even if technically the product is under 10 inches.
Unless it’s written in the OEM license agreement itself. Having Reller make that announcement and then MS clean it up to specifically mention sub-10 doesn’t sound like it has this level on nuanced attached to it.

Add to that, the screen is under 10" so the device (if retail proportions stay the same) would get office 2013. How interesting.

One will not treat games the same as they have always been treated on consoles, which is a huge minus for me (XB1). One seems to be doing a better job of courting all developers, not just AAA (Sony).
For me that’s debatable. When I take a step back and look at what MS is doing with respect to announcements, I don’t mind it. Have a conference for features and non-gaming things, have a conference for games, have a conference for developers. Everyone gets specific attention. But, I say that, knowing that I HAD TO step back and look at everything in order to see it that way. It’s hard making an informed decision based on what you see on the internet alone especially when there’s so much undue negativity for one camp and so much overwhelming positivity from the other.
I want PS4 to get the online and UI bits right. There’s a stark difference between XBL and PSN and that was what held me to the 360. I could literally do no gaming whatsoever, just chill in a party and shoot the sh*t with my friends if I wanted to (it broke my heart to lose party watching on netflix). At the same time, I feel like the competition is different on the 360 vs the PS3. People rage quit WAY to damn often on sports games on the PS4. It’s more of a gaming cultural thing that I feel is fixable when there’s a pay wall. So PS+ intrigues me from that end. We’ll see, as I said earlier (and what you can tell here), I’m still on the fence.
Comment
I can respect that. At least the PS4 will get backwards compatibility via streaming (if you don’t have a hang up about having to be online to play a single player game that is).
