Then where are they? I keep seeing these statistics being posted about how g+ has more active users than twitter, but noone I know uses it, yet most of my friends are very active on twitter/instagram/facebook etc.
To be perfectly honest, I think the only real way to make google+ “take off” is to allow posts from g+ to also post to a facebook or twitter account.
That’s how both instagram and twitter took off, you can set either account to automatically post updates to your other social media networks.
Suddenly, all of your facebook friends/twitter followers are seeing all of these “instagram” posts, become intrigued, and then try it out themselves.

Whatever happened to AIM anyway? I mean, it used to be THE messaging program, everyone had one, and now I’m not even sure that it still exists.

Not really sure how those two examples are relevant.
Chrome was released before android, and was originally a windows-only app. Chrome for android wasn’t even released until last year. User data gathered from chrome is useful for google, and Windows is still the most common desktop OS, so it wouldn’t make sense for Google to abandon the platform.
Similarily, with intel, it makes sense to help cater to one of your biggest customers.
Embracing a competing standard only a few months after launching on one of your flagship devices would be like Sony deciding to solely produce HD-DVD players only a few months after launching the PS3. Or like Apple putting microUSB ports on the iphone 6/iPad 5

Well, I think you could hear explosions… kinda.
Not in the way that is depicted in the trailer, but if something large did explode, the blast of onrushing gas would still hit the astronaut’s suit, which would cause some sort of sound.

Directors and producers usually have little to no control over how a trailer is produced, or how a film/show is marketed.
It would make sense for the studio to market the film as some sort of massive sci-fi action-adventure film because that’s what sells.
Hopefully, the director will actually remain true to the book, but you never know.

Off the top of my head, both x-men and pirates of the Caribbean had cliffhanger’s in the second film.
Not always, but the format happens quite frequently.
