I really like it. The new UI is fantastic and the selection of music is good too. It’s definitely a huge improvement for Google in this area.

For phones, it’s nothing but Android for me. However, tablet wise, I still think the iPad offers a more complete, polished experience. For instance, apps from NBC, ABC, and the like are only available for iOS, and that’s what I primarily use a tablet for.

IMO, I think hardware buttons are definitely better. Plus, they don’t take up screen real-estate.

A Sony Nexus wouldn’t be bad at all, but I would hope Moto gets a shot at it in the next go around or so. Moto has had nice hardware in the past, and with Google’s edge, it could be incredible.

Well said. I don’t know why that concept is so incredibly difficult for others to grasp. I’m perfect competent in rooting, unlocking, using ADB, and the like, but I stay busy with so many things, like trying to spend time with my son, that I can’t just sit there and flash night lies, etc., all the time. This is the perfect solution for people like me. Ill say this again for repetitions sake; if this was a GE One, then people would be nuts about it saying that the price is even low for such a ‘premium’ device. /s

Cost isn’t a huge factor for me because I liked my GS3 so well. I currently have the Nexus 4, and while it’s a great phone, I’d rather have the GS4. My former GS3 (on Verizon at the time) was running CM10. I liked that the phone had physical buttons due to two reasons. First, I like the physical buttons better than software buttons any day. Second, software takes up more screen real-estate. Now, I know it’s not a ton of screen taken, but with the software buttons, the usable area is probably somewhere around 4.5 inches. It doesn’t sound like a huge difference, but after using the GS3 for so long, it does seem like I’m using an iPhone. The processor is faster, etc., and I know real world it may not make a huge difference, but it’s an added bonus.
The reasons I’ll be purchasing a GE GS4 is as follows:
5" of SAMOLED glory
Physical home button
SD slot
Plastic
While the plastic Sammy uses isn’t top-grade aluminum, etc., it’s not glass which I have to worry about shattering if I accidentally drop the phone, etc. The removable battery doesn’t matter much to me, but the GS4 battery is 2,600 mAh versus the 2,100 mAh in my N4.
I know what I’ve said probably won’t make a crap of difference to those who only worry about price, but this is what’s important to someone like me who is actually going to purchase one when available.

Or buy all 3, see which you like the best, and then sale the other two. ;-)
I’ve been waiting on the XFON, but this changes everything for me. I actually loved CM10 on my S3, and miss the screen real-estate that I had. The N4 screen seems to tiny, especially after having the software buttons take up space.

Why is everyone pissing and moaning about this. If you buy the phone full retail from a carrier, then that’s what you’ll pay too! Except this is stock Android with updates from Google. If HTC did this, everyone would be singing their praises. This could potentially be a game changer causing other manufacturers to follow their lead. This is what everyone has wanted all along, and now all I see is people complaining about the price. I’ll be purchasing one and don’t mind the price because I won’t have to go through the whole ROM process and updating my phone constantly to keep a working product. This is great for those of us that want vanilla Android, but don’t have the time to constantly be flashing nightlies, etc.

Agreed. Heck, I’ll just purchase one and throw my Nexus back in the box for a month or two, then switch between it, this, and the XFON. I just got on AT&T back in January and it’s giving me an even worse desire to be a phone whore, ha-ha.
Here’s to hoping the rumor is true!

I agree with you on the buttons. Hopefully, that will be addressed in a future update. I think the buttons have always been to small in the PS app.

Crap, you beat me to posting about this. I’ve been trying to get to the Verge for almost 10 minutes, but it has been saying that the site was unavailable.
Anyways though, on to more important matters. If this is indeed true, then I’m going to pick one up as soon as AT&T bands are made available on it.
If it isn’t true, then it’s a nice dream. But if it is, it could be a game changer. I’d definitely pick this over my current N4.

Here’s my previous phone list (only smartphones in no particular order):
Droid
Droid X2
Incredible
Incredible 2
Droid X
Droid X 2
Galaxy S
Galaxy S3
iPhone 4
Nexus 4
Curve
Bold
Storm
HTC something. It was like a Blackberry, it running WinMobile.
The one I kept the longest was probably the Galaxy S. I loved that thing and thought I’d never upgrade.

It depends on how much I like the phone to be honest. Sometimes, I’ve tried phones that were good in some areas and poor in others. Other times, something just caught my eye and it was an impulse purchase. As of now, I’m rocking the N4. I do like it quite a bit, but the only thing I’d like is a bigger screen (due to the software buttons). My previous GS3’s screen felt huge compared to the N4. I like the size of the N4, but just wish the screen was more stretched out. Next, I’ll probably take a shot with the Motorola XFON or Nexus 5. More so the XFON because it will debut sooner. However, I’ll probably end up with a new Nexus too and just switch between them. I was on Verizon for many years and just switched to ST AT&T service last year, so I’m loving the crap out of having a GSM phone. That doesn’t help me when it comes to being content with one phone. If it wasn’t for Google’s acquisition of Moto, then it’d probably just be a yearly Nexus update.

There was rumors of a 32GB LTE Nexus 4 a while back. If I remember correctly, it would be released at Google’s I/O event.

I’d say AT&T is losing customers to Straight Talk and the like, so they may do this in an attempt to recover those lost customers. It makes sense. Even low margins are better than none at all. I think this is where they’re headed.

The logo on the top is for development phones. The ring around the M logo is a bar code of sorts. Every phone is different, and like stated above, it helps identify phone leaks. I try to find the link to explain this and post it shortly.

Dear The Verge,
Please start writing more about cars. I love the site the way it is, but this makes it even cooler. Next time, you should do an article about the Ferrari 250GT Spyder California.
