This would make the most sense, and it would at least give people an idea as to when the console needs to be online. I still think this shouldn’t be necessary, but it is where we are heading eventually.

I’d say the honor for ugliest console goes to the original Xbox, easily.

I transferred my Skype account to my Microsoft account, the same one I use for Windows and Xbox. So, it most certainly can be done. And it just might be required for this functionality.

Microsoft still has a lot to clarify, true. They have said that you will be able to do things offline, which is to be expected, but they really need to clarify the “needs an Internet connection” part of that deal. What happens if your internet is out when the console phones home? Does the console kick you off? Or does it keep going no issues, trying to sync back again later (which would, theoretically, allow the console to be offline for an indefinite amount of time).

I actually believed that Rockstar delayed GTAV’s release specifically to target next-gen consoles. However, there have been no announcements (still holding out for E3) on the subject. I feel that many of the cross-platform launch titles (AC4, Watch Dogs, maybe GTAV, Ghosts, etc.) will be available on the PS3, 360, PS4 and Xbox One.

iOS 7 will be released alongside the new iPhone, which will most likely come out sometime during the timeframe you mentioned.

Didn’t even notice this. Not as egregious as the Drive and Chrome icons, however.
Comment
Completely forgot about Drive, but it too needs to be updated.

It really is just unappealing compared to their other app icons. Not ‘ugly’ per se, but not eye-catching either.

Jailbroken tweak, I presume.

The phone certainly doesn’t feel $300 more expensive, but I would say that the much better screen, the much better camera and the better performance are worth the added cost.

So, in my opinion, the best looking apps that I use every day:
Google+
I would definitely use Google+ as my primary social network if more of my friends used it, especially since today’s redesign of the website.
Google Maps
Google Maps is visually on par with Apple’s mapping solution, but the data is FAR more accurate and more widely available. A great example: Apple thinks the nearest Walmart to where I live is about an hour away, while Google knows that it is actually about 10 minutes away.
Google Hangouts
This may have just been released, but I plan on using this as much as possible and I really do love the design.
Mailbox
Truly is the most beautiful mail application I have ever used on any platform and it has radically changed the way I deal with email.
Google Search w/ Google Now
I love Google Search, and have found Google Now to be indispensable since it was added.
Pocket Casts
The current version of Pocket Casts is very beautiful, but I cannot wait for Shifty Jelly to release 4.0, which was just released on Android. Looks beautiful and very functional.
Yahoo! Weather
I hate the icon, but the app is beautiful.
Flipboard
I absolutely couldn’t live without Flipboard. It is a very beautiful and info-dense news application and is such a joy to use.

Absolutely stuff. The videos had that distinctly Apple feel to them, and the UI you’ve mocked up looks consistent with their current TV offerings. Bravo!

I wouldn’t say that Windows 8 is on the scale of Vista. Windows 8 IS a very polished operating system, making a plethora of performance and UI improvements (on the desktop) over Windows 7. Windows Vista was broken and buggy, and really did take a new version of Windows to make right. Windows 8 is not even on that level.
The problem with Windows 8 is that is a transitional operating system by nature. Microsoft knows that, for tablets at least, the Modern UI is the future. The desktop will fall away as DOS has into basic irrelevance for 99% of users. I don’t think Microsoft is going to throw the desktop model away so quickly, hence its prevalence in Windows 8 (and hence some of the changes they’re making with 8.1).
Vista will always be remembered as one of Microsoft’s biggest blunders, if not the biggest. Windows 8, on the other hand, will most likely be remembered as the genesis of Microsoft’s future: a cohesive ecosystem spanning all of your screens (and multiple platforms) with a forward looking UI paradigm.
The desktop will never truly go away, so long as people truly need it. If Microsoft makes the app model for Windows 8 more like traditional desktop Windows apps, that could open up a world of possibilities.

Engadget Distro and Game Informer currently. I have considered resubscribing to PC Gamer and subscribing to EDGE and Maximum PC and using the iPad editions.

While holding larger phones never made me aspire to want a bigger phone, holding smaller phones never made me aspire for smaller phones. I’ve always felt that 4.3" was best for me, based on my experiences. Not to say the iPhone 5 is too small, nor to say that 4.5" screens are too large, but that anything under 4" is too small for me and that anything over 4.5" is big beyond need for me.
Hopefully these companies will start realizing that different people like different things and give us a couple good phones to choose from.
This is exactly what I’m hoping for. As I said in my post, Apple really has no incentive to make multiple iPhones at multiple sizes, as people who are gonna get an iPhone are gonna get an iPhone. But Android manufacturers could really distinguish themselves from the rest of the pack by making high-end phones at multiple sizes. If Android is all about choice, then why are all the high-end phones huge?
I want to see more device choice. More mid-sized (4" to 4.5") high-end phones, but I don’t want to see the larger phones go away, nor do I want to see phones ranging from 3.5" to <4" go away. People have different tastes, but those tastes shouldn’t disallow for a high performance device.

4.0" to 4.2"
Completely agree here (4.3" being the uppbq. er threshold for me).
No. I only need one.
Haha. :D I think that more manufacturers making smaller phones would show that there is a market for people who want high-end phones at more pocket and hand friendly sizes. But, you do make a good point: we only really need one phone.
No, I think Samsung has pretty much got the 5.0" to 8.0" space covered. If people want ridiculously big phones, they can buy them.
I would really like to see someone knock Samsung off their pedestal. Samsung makes overall good devices at a variety of sizes and price points, but competition has basically fallen off the face of planet for them. They’ll compete with Apple, of course, but there really isn’t a competent third player (manufacturer wise). I’d prefer for consumers who do want those sizes not to be forced to use Samsung products (almost exclusively).
Sure. If only to stop people from complaining about it.
I don’t think people will stop complaining about it. Instead you’ll have a new class of people complaining about how the phone still isn’t big enough or how it’s now too big.

Thanks for the help. I’m still gonna give it a shot. If it ends up that I decide to go through Apple for the replacement, and I don’t get lucky, then I’ll have to wait several weeks before I can get a replacement. I can’t really afford replacement fees at the moment, but it shouldn’t take more than two or three weeks to save up the cash. There is always a chance that I get lucky, but I’m prepared for the likely possibility that I will have to shell out a couple hundred bucks for a replacement.

Well, just looking at it, I know I couldn’t live with it for more than a couple of weeks. I use my phone every day for almost everything, so being able to use it comfortably and easily is very important. Thankfully it did this just a couple of days before my next paycheck, which should be able to cover any fees I need to fork out if I don’t get lucky at the Apple store. And, if I’m not mistaken, the AT&T deductible is applied to the next bill (not an immediate payout), so that would allow me to save up some cash to cover the fee if, again, I don’t get lucky at the Apple store.

What good is an edit button if you can’t start edits within the 90 seconds and then post them after the 90 seconds is up? Get on that, The Verge!
Anyway, I wanted to expand upon my last line, because it sounds like I’m saying that since I didn’t put the phone in a case, I don’t deserve a replacement. I don’t expect Apple to give me a replacement phone, plain and simple, because they have no obligation to do so, and there was a measure I could have taken to prevent the damages that occurred. Whether they give me a free replacement or not, I’ve learned my lesson about forgetting to put my phone back in its case. However, it would be a nice gesture, especially since I can’t really afford the ~$230 Apple charges or the $199 that AT&T charges.
