That’s the main thing keeping me from switching. I really don’t understand what their thoughts are for not doing so. It seems like they’re matching the design and library feature of Rdio with the quality of Spotify, but the lack of availability is going to kill it.

Haha, I had actually never heard it used that way before. Always thought of it in the Scooby Doo terms.

How is YouTube a better experience? You seem so certain about it, but you haven’t given any reasoning other than it’s popular.
on-site consumption experience is terrible.
How is
better than
You get the same if not more information right when you load the website, and there’s a lot more to acces if you scroll around a little compared to YouTube.
We can talk about playback too, and how
takes up more of the screen and fades the rest to black for a better viewing experience.
Meanwhile,
has a ton of white space and ads down the side.
Oh, and instead of being constantly defaulted to 480p like I am with YouTube, The Verge player automatically switches to HD because it knows my network can handle it.
The Verge is doing the same thing, imposing a subpar user experience by making users consume content from an internal product that’s vastly inferior
But here’s the main problem with your argument. They’re not doing anything like that. If you want to watch all their content in their hub, you can. If not, you can easily go to YouTube and deal with their way of doing things.
The Verge isn’t imposing anyone to do anything, so stop pretending they are.
And don’t try to pin this on me saying that my comment is irrelevant or a red herring. You posted a picture about an ad, then went on to complain about said ad and how it gets in the way of user interface. I was responding to that criticism, not pulling something out of thin air. If you don’t want to pay for things online, there are going to have to be ads. You act like the user experience should be all content, and no ads. There is no major difference between the amount of ads on YouTube compared to The Verge.

I’m not sure what the web rips are at, but Spotify Premium is streamed at 320 VBR. That’s pretty high quality and not discernible from FLAC for most people. So what amazing equipment do you have that let’s you look down on Spotify listeners?
And furthermore, why does it matter? If people are enjoying music, that’s the most important thing.

I really don’t understand how this is super useful though. Sure it looks nice, and is pretty cool to play with (from my limited experience with it on the First and in the iOS Facebook app) but how is it any better than acting on a notification in the traditional way? Why would I rather see a smushed version of my messenger app and switch back to my game than just task switch the normal way?
Perhaps I’m missing something, but it doesn’t seem like this adds any functionality whatsoever. Of course, the same could somewhat be said for pull-to-refresh.
