Where is the problem? A smartphone is online most of the time. And the free version is perfectly usable on all platforms and a really advanced solution.
Btw: you get a ton of other features with Premium: http://evernote.com/premium/ , not just offline notebooks.
And it is 3,75$ if you take a yearly subscription.
For me, Premium is a no brainer since 2010.
