PNG is a nice example actually. The creators intended it to be pronounced “ping” but I’m pretty sure everyone ignored that because that’s not what it looks like. And GIF doesn’t really look like it’s pronounced “jiff” either, unless you’re Italian. I mean, obviously English has ambiguous pronunciation – consider gin and git. But g is hard way more often than soft when starting words.
