that’s me! haha.
I actually got myself a shiny new NON-hardware-keyboard phones (the ONE X), but found myself still unable to switch totally over. I’m still using my HTC G2, mainly for texting and emails. The One X is stuck to just browsing and movies.

As a network administrator, I can tell you for certain that dropbox does sync over LAN.they have a checkbox in the preferences page for that. You won’t even realise that its happening, but if you have multiple computers on the same network with access to the same shared folders, they pull data from each other rather than from dropbox over the internet

I suppose its all tribal-ism. Its just human nature to take up arms to support one cause and rail against another. In-groups vs out-groups.
Those that can sit rationally between the two usually have a broader cause that they identify with, or just care a lot more about an unrelated field altogether.
Its the same with most things. In cycling, you have roadies vs mountain bikers, in fiction you have sci-fi vs fantasy, in cars you have porche vs ferrari, in beverages you have tea-drinking vs coffee-drinking, in knitting you have…. uh..

I wonder if you’ve ever used an MIUI rom or the Meizu MX. No application drawer. Just all your launchers on the home screen. Like iOS. And then add extra screens to put widgets on. Unlike iOS.
I honestly think that’s a way better approach. Takes away unnecessary fuss from the UX. I realise its just my taste, but with motorola, htc and samsung all wasting their time with their pointless UI tweaks, why doesn’t at least one of them try doing things that way instead. Meizu did it. They deserve props for doing an “android skin” that’s actually worth something

It’s the Internet. A platform where just about anybody can express their opinions in any manner of ways. Thick skin is a requirement to play in this sandbox.
Yeahp. There’s much worse videos on youtube. This particular video in question is just not worth linking to. That’s all I’m saying.

Yeah I realise its way too easy to fall into the elitist camp and think anyone throwing favour at proprietary technology is an idiot. I guess its just a gut reaction that grows stronger the more I see such (IMHO) undeserved love for these corporations.

Yeahp. Most people aren’t aware of what it means in practical terms to them. But that doesn’t mean it doesn’t practically benefit them. Look at the LAMP stack (that’s linux, apache, mysql and php). Most people don’t know what the hell that is. But it still means a gigantic deal to them. Without it, half the websites in the world wouldn’t exist.
Open source does more in the background than most people know, and directly to our benefit. It doesn’t matter that you don’t interact with it directly. It matters that its there. And tech journalism would do well to keep that perspective in mind and not be waylaid by PR hacks.
