The most interesting thing I find about Bitcoins is that they replicate some of the worst aspects of physically mining gold. You’d think smart people would be able to come up with a better system than “gold, but digital”.
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-04-12/virtual-bitcoin-mining-is-a-real-world-environmental-disaster.html
One of the strangest aspects of the Bitcoin frenzy is that the Bitcoin economy replicates some of the most archaic features of the gold standard. Real-world mining of precious metals for currency was a resource-hungry and value-destroying process. Bitcoin mining is too.

Even elements of Windows 8 suffer from this problem. The system tray on the desktop taskbar, for example, is absurdly small and difficult to use even with the touchpad.
But MS doesn’t want you to use the Desktop on Windows 8. It’s your own fault!

They are obviously dangerous enough to keep off of planes at all costs, but not dangerous enough to actually arrest and charge with anything.

I don’t really trust the government to very much of anything correctly, but I think they are at least competent enough to maintain a list of names and photos
Tell that to all the people who are wrongly on the no fly list. And the people correctly on the no fly list who can still fly because of errors in the database prevets them from getting flagged by the system.

Um, there are many people in the US legally who are allowed to work who are not citizens. The path to becoming a citizen usually involves years of being a legal imagrant/resident alien.

Of the people I text, a few have Android phones, two or three have dumbphones, and my sister is using my old Palm (todlers are good at breaking smartphones, it seems). A handful are on Facebook, one person sometimes uses GTalk, no one I know uses iMessage. There isn’t a single (or even two) chat apps that would cover the majority of those people. SMS just works and I don’t have to think about what the other person is using. If I have to install an app AND convince the other person to do the same, then it’s a non-starter.

I haven’t paid more than $35/month for a cell phone plan in … years? Since 2006 at least. And I have always had unlimited texting included in that. Yes, that includes data and smartphones. I don’t understand how someone could justify paying $20/month just for texting.
