Even if it were true that no company spies on people, which its not (a company just got in trouble recently for adding spyware to computers and using the webcam to watch people getting undressed, having sex etc), it fails to take into account malicious hackers breaking into the system and doing their own spying a la Samsung smart TVs.
Plus it takes targeted advertising to a whole new level of creepy, and once MS implements their pay per viewer patent, watching movies and TV shows will be more expensive for a lot of people and a bigger pita than ever.

If iTunes is any indication of what an apple made app would be like on android or WP, they are better off without it. ITunes was abysmal on windows and I refuse to reinstall it. It, along with the crappy experience I had with the iPod are the reasons I will never buy another Apple product.
I may hate MS for a variety of reasons, but I’ve never had a worse or more frustrating experience with any company’s product than Apples iTunes and iPod.

This I m biggest gripe with YouTube. There is nothing more annoying than “This video can not be displayed on mobile platforms.”

Ads on a pay service that only benefits MS’s bottom line vs ads on a free service that affect Indie content producer’s bottom line. Hmmm…

I have the standalone sling box with DirecTV and love it. I use it to watch TV next to my pond. Sitting outside surrounded by nature watching TV is very enjoyable, especially since I have access to all the channels plus DVR list, every other TV anywhere service is crippled in someway or other, they are very disappointing, especially DirecTV anywhere.
Only the very best of TV gets the big screen treatment these days.

Yay for the public library. Got the audio books of Enders Saga from the public library years ago, and glad I never spent money on them.
On a side note, the audio books were a great production, and according to OSC, in the authors notes at the end of one of the audio books, he said he prefers people to listen to the audio books vs reading the books because he writes for an audible experience. Not that this will matter to the people who hate him for his homophobic nonsense.

Dish is currently trying to build a wireless network for mobile video, if they succeed in buying Sprint and becoming an internet service provider, they wouldn’t be in any different a position than the cable companies. Directv wouldn’t have any more issue than Aereo has.
As for cable companies, they have the bandwidth to deliver it, cheaper than Aereo since they wouldn’t have to pay a 3rd party ISP for internet access like Aereo has to.
Cable boxes (DVR variety anyway) could likely be updated with software via a firmware update for a streaming app. My dtv dvr has gotten tons of app updates for everything from Pandora to Youtube (I wish directv wouldnt be so obnoxious by refusing to release a Netflix app tho).
Oh and a maior cable company has already expressed an interest in the “aereo model”

What’s the FCC gonna do, revoke their spectrum license? Oh wait….
CBS is under no obligation to remain a broadcast network aside from the contracts they have signed. But they aren’t the BBC, they aren’t ran and funded by the government and it can’t mandate that they remain on the public airwaves.

Yeah, unless Netflix just doesn’t want to pay the licensing fees a la Viacom. They are a business after all and have to decide if the content is worth the added cost.

Yeah, and?
I never said Netflix sucks, just that I’m only interested in its original content, and the loss of a bunch of non Netflix originals doesn’t bother me.

Pretty much. The tiny amount of movies I watch every year I wait to watch on HBO or Showtime, and watch the TV shows that I like when they air. Other than original content, Netflix doesn’t have any streaming content I care about and I haven’t rented a movie on DVD or BD in several years.

Its little different than any other network that sifts through a ton of crap to find the diamonds in the rough, really the only difference is its transparent and open to the public.

The only thing I like about Netflix is the original programming (haven’t been a Netflix fan for a long time, though I loved it when it first started), same as HBO, so a bunch off non in-house content being yanked won’t matter to me at all.
