Science has no say in religion, nor theism, because metaphysical things are outside of its explanatory scope. God is a philosophical idea and only subject to philosophical analysis. Philosophical ideas are absolutely falsifiable, that is if they fail to obey the rules of logic.
This is what he was trying to do, but he was using a totally irrelevant passage to do so. Just shows you how much he doesn’t know about basic Christian theology. This interpretation is also indicative of the public perception of this passage.
