And what are “today’s requirements”. Try to do this without sounding like a nerd.

They’ve alredy said why on multiple occasions. In fact, if you’d read the article you would have noticed that they gave one of those reasons again. And the initial deal was already reported to be over 4 years so obviously that 15.5bn wasn’t just for the 4S.

If the IPO wasn’t happening on Friday this story may have just gone unnoticed. It’s news because FB itself is in the news right now.

Not a good argument. Facebook paved the way for Google+ and yet the latter has still either not learned from the mistakes of the former and/or hasn’t made itself compelling enough for non-nerds to switch to it. There are so many things that have happened since Facebook’s launch that the opportunity for greater Google+ numbers was clearly there. MySpace was trounced quite handily and quickly by Facebook.

If you’re serious about books I do not understand why you would not have one of the platforms that Kindle appears on. It’s not a huge investment.

Apps which are not universal are the exception nowadays. And having the same app on Android for both phone and tablet just means you have a not-optimized-for-tablet smartphone app on your tablet.

Most people are saying that the iOS app has leapfrogged the Android app with this update. I’d be surprised if the situation is not reversed again when they update the Android app.

Who cares if it got users quicker? It’s usage has slowed dramatically and it’s still a speck compared to Facebook.
The social networking scene itself was still in its infancy when Facebook launched. It’s no surprise their initial numbers were less. That’s like trying to compare the price of something in 1982 compared with today and not taking into account inflation.

I doubt Apple cares too much what the carriers think. They must have some kind of agreement with them not to do certain things anyway so the carriers probably aren’t too worried either.

Why? The fact that a lot of people thought Samsung were behind it is due to Samsung’s similar, recent marketing tactics. People were more surprised when they found out it WASN’T Samsung. That most folks thought it was Samsung is merely representative of the kind of marketing strategy people expect Samsung to take nowadays. They brought it upon themselves.
Obviously they already denied they were behind it before this news came about so it’s kinda irrelevant.

The users don’t do the word of mouth routine if the products sucked. Marketing might suck you in but it won’t define or influence your experience with the product once you’ve spent any worthwhile time with it.
