Pixel doubling is supported as of Vista. Most don’t configure it correctly though and use the wrong scaling algorithm.

Theres no doubt room for improvement. The latency in your case does seem a bit extreme though. Takes a few seconds to open the app, certainly, but 30 seems abnormally high.
(Took ~2.5 seconds from tapping the live tile for me now that i tested)
I do wonder if it may have to do with how much of the app is still in Memory. (E.g. if you rarely open it, it might take longer to start)

Combination. Plenty of OEMs just include plain bad trackpads, though on the software side they’re not exactly given any help.
Windows (prior to 8) actually did not differentiate a mouse and trackpad at all. Trackpads as such had to generate ‘mouse equivalent’ actions. This works ok generally for basic movements, not so much for gestures however. Because the trackpads have to generate equivalent mouse actions, but theres actually very few basic mice actions availible – Windows based trackpads haven’t been able to guarantee system-wide the same level of gesture comprehension as what Apple can do in OSX.
Or in perhaps simpler terms: There is no trackpad API.
Windows 8 does include some basic level of understanding of a ‘trackpad’ – though still not at the level it could be at. A basic ‘list’ of ‘gestures’ that trackpad drivers are designed to trigger, and applications then listen for, would vastly improve the user experience. (And make life easier for everyone in the long run)

At that bitrate (with Advanced Audio Coding), most sound equipment with demolish the difference between that and superior quality levels. Anything portable will easily do it, but even most desktop systems if they’ve not been configured properly (stock will demolish the quality).
It is of course still advisable to attain better quality files for transcoding.

Hard to say. Xbox Music / Zune was as I recall the third largest ‘media store’ after Amazon and iTunes though.

The Surface Pro is what, 5x-7x faster than the iPad? And standard gaming rigs with e.g a GTX 660 is about 10x faster than that?
Remind me, how much faster is the iPad compared to the iPhone and other phones?
On top of that, mobile systems lack support for a lot of shaders and hardware techniques standard in PC/Console hardware. So you have to alter the engine with those limitations in mind anyway.
Its like moaning that not everyone makes games for DX8.

It is supported, yes. As is accessing those saves on the Xbox 360 and W8.
Skulls of the Shogun notably uses it. Galactic Reign supports sessions spanning over those devices. (eg. Start on W8, finish on WP)

Everything else is just polled on occasion and display their updates in some other passive manner. Many (calendar included) just update previous displays, and that’s their sole purpose.

Curious that the notebook CPUs are going from 45W TDP to 47W TDP.
That might actually reduce battery life in a dedicated burn test, though real-usage times should still improve.

One of the titles was mentioned in the OP. While the 3GS can run iOS 6 (or rather a limited version of it), it cannot for example run Modern Combat 4. That title also cannot run on the iPad 1, despite qualifying for the iOS version.
Requirements: Compatible with iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod touch (4th generation), iPod touch (5th generation), iPad 2 Wi-Fi, iPad 2 Wi-Fi + 3G, iPad (3rd generation), iPad Wi-Fi + 4G, iPad (4th generation), iPad Wi-Fi + Cellular (4th generation), iPad mini and iPad mini Wi-Fi + Cellular. Requires iOS 4.3 or later. This app is optimized for iPhone 5.

OP, I don’t think you understand the term of fragmentation at all. What you’re talking about are phones that are simply underspecced and thus cannot run certain high-end apps. You’ll get that in all computer systems. iPhone 3GS, 4, and in rare cases even 4S cannot run certain apps – but nobody ever called that ‘fragmentation’.

If one looks at actual numbers, iOS (and other mobile) titles aren’t actually doing all that well. Especially not when one considers the much larger customer base.
They’re financially profitable (and the margins can very good), but a single AAA title can – and do – beat out entire mobile gaming companies.
