Can you check, maybe your Macs have Adobe’s PDF plugin installed? It’s usually installed together with Adobe’s Acrobat Reader.
When installed, it will be used to display PDFs in browsers, instead of the native plugin, significantly degrading performance and user experience. When using native plugins or the Preview application, I don’t have any problems with PDFs even on very old Macs.

I don’t mean the keys (many keyboards now have chiclet design), I’m about the overall design, i.e. a flat pane of metal with flat keys on it from one side and a plastic body on another side + fat bump on the far side of the keyboard as a means to achieve the angle.
