Lost is in this mold.
Revolution has been surprisingly good As well. Heroes was good, and started to get real interesting right before it got cancelled.

The Wire is amazing, it seems slow at first, but they’re just really developing quite a few storylines at once, it seemed like each season ended sooner than I expected, but they still did it pretty fully.
