1. He never did build the Android version. He outsourced that.

2. You should put what he said in context. That context included that Instapaper for iOS was always far more successful and profitable, but that Instapaper for Android was a smart business move in the economic sense. He then jokingly said that apparently trashing the platform wasn’t very business-savvy.

3. Sounds more like he just got tired of being on one project since, what, ‘08? I don’t think anyone can begrudge him that.
