Etching icons onto aluminium might be over the top for a mid range phone, but the attention to detail here puts Samsung to shame.
It puzzles me why Samsung don’t place any real importance on preciseness and attention to detail in the industrial design, when most of their peers do.

You nicely sum up the propensity of Google enthusiasts to credit Google for the good parts of Android and excuse them from blame for any of the bad.
PS: Stop buying motorola phones.

Also, putting the phones together in an environment that favors the HTC (light) really is kind of a dick move.
It would be if most people used their phone indoors, but they don’t. They use them indoors and outside.

Cabel spent a fair amount of time making elements of Coda 1 resolution independent (I remember watching a presentation when he explained in great detail how the clips panel was completely resolution independent).
Apple has never exposed res independence beyond their developer tools.
It never became a feature of Mac OS X.
They are just doing good practice and future proofing. If they were working with Apple “Retina ready” probably wouldn’t be on the website as Apple like their secrecy.
That said – like the rest of us they have a fair idea that Apple will be start moving to retina display Macs in starting next month.

Compare a Thinkpad (not an Edge) versus a “similarly specced” Ideapad. That’s the sort of comparison you should be doing. Your probably find the Thinkpad $400-$600 overpriced.
Buying a laptop isn’t just a case of seeing which one has the best RAM, disk space and processor power for the cheapest price.
It’s an integrated device that can’t be fixed with add ons later. There are so many components (size, weight, keyboard quality, screen quality, rigidity + strength, heat dispersion, antenna performance, battery life…

Got that from SonyAlphaRumours and I have no reason to believe it is not genuine. Interesting read:
I had a discussion after NEX7 release with one of people leading Sony Team in one of the European countries […]
Sony aims towards making NEX half-open system earning best profits from cameras while leaving lenses mostly to others.
He told me that A-mount is the primary focus for Sony as an ILC system although people working in company are split in various ways.

Sigma make 19mm and 30mm E Mount primes.
See: four. Things looking better already.
In all seriousness: Apparently the idea is for Sony to make the bodies and to leave the lenses to a number of third parties. Internally there is some conflict on this strategy though. Sounds like “one Sony” at its best.

Windows has 3x discrete settings for DPI.
100%, 125% and 150%.
Unfortunately many third party applications are not particularly well adjusted to support the scaling.
HiDPI involves showing twice the detail, but elements (windows, menus) retaining their same effective size. Of course this will require developers to bundle better quality assets. I imagine though Apple will strongly encourage this through the Mac App Store.

They used to include the charger. A sign of product maturity unfortunate.
The bean counters have a greater say on what goes in the box, the engineers have less of a say.
