So close but yet so far away. Yes it’s not about “earning” a right standing before God because we have been made righteous in Christ Jesus (2 Corinthians 5:21) but the point it that we don’t strive against sin because, firstly there’s isn’t any sin left to strive against since Jesus died for all our sins even non-christians (:O bet some of you’s didn’t know that!) 1 John 2:2. Secondly through grace God has done everything, we don’t need to persuade him that we’re righteous by our acts of ‘holiness’. Finally by saying that we have to strive to fight sin is the same thing as you saying that what Jesus did on the cross isn’t enough to cover your sins or the sins you’re trying to avoid.

Actually as a Christian we don’t need to seek to honour God, since when Jesus died and rose again he already covered all our sins even the one’s that we haven’t committed yet. Grace has covered us completely and has set us free from any self-salvation projects(i.e. God has done everything, we don’t need to persuade him that we’re righteous by our acts of ‘holiness’) . Also the verse you quoted is talking about the law of the old testament which has nothing to do with a Christian anymore since Jesus’ resurrection and if you know try to live by the law you’re actually living under a curse.
