This is great news. I’m impressed with what Mayer’s been doing and have been longing for Flickr to up its game for a while as I love browsing it but have found the design and focus unfulfilling in recent years. This looks to be exactly what it needs.

If there were a greater selection of decent Windows 8 apps this would probably be top of my next-laptop list. An i5/7 11" laptop with a 1600×900 display would be the perfect complement to my iPad Mini for when I want to get a little more productive with the touchscreen.

What he said.
I don’t know many, if any, vegetarians that would be opposed to this. I certainly don’t have any problem with the taste of meat, I just don’t believe it’s right to kill an animal to get it. There are plenty of meat-styled alternatives (Quorn etc) that model their taste and form on meat but don’t come with any of the ethical burden. This to me is just a refined version of that concept.

Because it looks hideous.
And because the Modern UI is all about ‘content over chrome’. In Microsoft’s ideal world, developers will replace desktop apps with those for the new UI, and the desktop will simply fade into irrelevance. That’s what they’re focusing on, not amalgamating two distinct paradigms into one compromised hybrid that does both a disservice and shows no commitment to their new dogma.
